Taking care of your neighbor during the Advent: volunteers from a Hungarian charity Budapest Bike Maffia distributed more than 2,000 sandwiches to those in need.
The action on the occasion of World Human Rights Day was held in social centers, shelters for the homeless and orphanages in the capital of the country in cooperation with the Embassy of the Netherlands.
According to the head of the NGO, due to the economic crisis, more and more of his compatriots are seeking help. ““I don’t see a sharp increase in the number of homeless or shelter residents, but the problems have affected the elderly who live in their apartments. It is increasingly difficult for them to make ends meet”, – says Zoltan Khavasi .
The ranks of volunteers were replenished with high school students who helped prepare and pack sandwiches.
The NPO intends to continue such actions. Every year, the Budapest Bike Maffia distributes hundreds of thousands of meals.
