Luka is just one week old. The baby cries endlessly from hunger. He doesn’t get enough milk, but his parents have nothing to feed him with—they are too poor to buy baby formula. It’s hard to understand someone else’s pain if you’ve never experienced anything like it yourself. Think about it! What if, God forbid, it were your children starving?  How would it feel to see your little son or daughter crying from hunger? The only food in their home is bread brought from a free canteen. But should this be the diet of a breastfeeding mother and her children?

Friends, your help has already saved hundreds of lives. And now, it’s time to extend the same support to Georgia’s Paralympic arm-wrestling champion, Valeri Gabelia. The clock is ticking, counting down the days and hours separating him from certain death—unless help arrives in time. Valeri is battling stage four cancer—Hodgkin’s lymphoma. He’s endured 25 rounds of chemotherapy, but after surgery, his condition drastically worsened. In just one month, cancer has almost consumed Valeri. At 45 years old, he now weighs only 43 kilograms.  The illness has changed him beyond recognition.

The War in Abkhazia More than 10,000 Georgian civilians lost their lives. Approximately 10,000 were wounded or maimed, and over 300,000 Georgians were forcibly expelled from their homes in Abkhazia by separatists. At just 20 years old, Lika bandaged wounds and stopped the bleeding of soldiers during the Abkhazian War. She never left the bodies of fallen soldiers on the battlefield.  Risking her own life, she carried them out so their parents could at least have a grave to bury their sons. This brave young woman is now a widow. She has no home, no food, and no money for medicine. She lives in the same conditions as a stray dog. This horrifying building, once a tuberculosis clinic, is now her home.  There’s no electricity, no heating, no windows. The walls are rotting from dampness.  Lika, a hero who saved so many lives and fought for the unity of her homeland, now resides in this terrible place. Even in the homeland she fought to protect, there wasn’t a single decent room for Lika. Left without shelter, she was forced to seek refuge in an abandoned building still infested with tuberculosis bacteria known to science for centuries. These rooms, once occupied by tuberculosis patients battling for their lives, are now the only place this heroic woman can call home. Oh, God, it is so terrible!
Even worse, Lika is seriously ill. She underwent heart surgery, but her condition remains critical, requiring ongoing treatment. She has no money for bread, let alone medication. She also has a large uterine cyst that needs urgent removal, or it will develop into a tumor.

These poor children thank God every day for saving them from their mother, who beat and starved them! What a nightmare! Mariam, Nikoloz, and Tengo deprived of almost everything lived in a house, surrounded by filth and chaos. Their father was in prison at the time, falsely accused by their own abusive mother of domestic violence, unaware of what was happening.  You will be horrified by what these children revealed to the foundation’s reporter. Marika (11-year-old): “How can you call that woman a mother? I don’t think of her as one!    She treated me and my little brothers so horribly. She beat us! She never cooked for us; we lived on bread and tea every day. We were always hungry! There was food in the fridge, but we weren’t allowed to touch it. At night, she’d leave us alone and go to the neighbors. I don’t even know what she was doing there!”

Beautiful Barbara was born with a rare anomaly – one leg is shorter than the other by as much as 16 centimeters! She would like to run and jump like other children, but the girl can barely walk, leaning on her short leg. Barbara, 9 years old: You know, I love my short leg! Even though it hurts. I get tired quickly; I cannot walk for long, much less run. I hardly leave the house. Moreover, if I do, they carry me in their arms. I feel very sorry for my grandmother, because I’m heavy, she gets tired. Her back hurts afterwards. The Turkish clinic can help the child. The surgeon agreed to perform a complex operation. He gave guarantees that Barbara will not only be able to stand on her feet, but even run and play sports.

Gio (6 years old): “My little brother is 9 months old, mother’s milk is not enough for him, and he cries all day from hunger. What should we feed him? The only edible thing we have at home is stale bread. Little Nikoloz won’t be able to chew it, he doesn’t have any teeth yet. But mom has no money for anything else.” Mariam: “If someone has the opportunity to shelter us, to give us one room, I will be immensely grateful. Or, perhaps, there will be a kind person who will help with renting an apartment? We live in an emergency building that can collapse at any moment. What will happen to my children? And where will we go?” Just imagine for a moment that such a misfortune happened to you or your loved ones. What would you do? Help this unfortunate woman raise two sons for the future of our country, our beloved Georgia! There is no one to help her. Her father is dead, her mother is disabled, and she herself needs help. If you do not help such needy people as Mariam and her children, then who does?
