Lazare: I don’t remember what I ate yesterday… Mom brings food from the free kitchen, but it’s not enough for everyone. There are four children in our family. Whoever gets to it first, eats. I didn’t get any because I was playing outside. So I stayed hungry. God forbid anyone should have to look into their own children’s hungry eyes every day and not be able to feed them. Let’s unite and help these wonderful children. We believe in your kindness and compassion! Doing good is easier than it seems!

0901200270The severely ill and perpetually hungry brothers have neither medicine nor food. Their home is plagued by black mold and the acrid smell of gas

– Lazare, what did you have for breakfast?
Lazare (6 years old): Nothing.
– And for lunch?
Lazare: Nothing.
– What do you have for dinner?
Lazare: Plain bread.
– What did you eat yesterday?
Lazare: I don’t remember what I ate yesterday… Mom brings food from the free kitchen, but it’s not enough for everyone. There are four children in our family. Whoever gets to it first, eats. I didn’t get any because I was playing outside. So I stayed hungry.
Broth, bread, and water – that’s all the food from the free kitchen for five people.
Lazare: Mom doesn’t cook at home because our stove is broken and leaking gas. Smell it, do you feel it? Do you think we won’t suffocate?
Maybe kind people could give mom a new stove so she can cook for us, and we won’t be afraid of an explosion? And mom also needs a washing machine. I feel sorry for her having to wash our clothes by hand every day. And imagine, she doesn’t even have any detergent.
“We have to cover our noses with our hands at night and sleep with the window open so we don’t suffocate.”
Nino (16-year-old): I absolutely can’t breathe in the gas, I suffocate. I have inflamed adenoids and I wake up at night from choking. Doctors say I need surgery, but mom doesn’t have the money for it.
“I get by by putting my pillow higher and spending the whole night sitting up.”
Nino: We’re cramped in a 15 square meter room. Four of us sleep on one half-broken bed. We don’t have our own house; we rent, but we don’t have enough money for a better apartment or to make repairs. We owe two months of rent. It’s scary to think we might be kicked out onto the street! And we have nowhere to go! We haven’t paid for electricity either. They’re threatening to turn it off.
It’s terrible! Black mold and mildew on the walls. Is this something kids should be breathing in?
Manana (mother, 39 years old): I am not working; I have two severely ill children who cannot be left unattended. Amiran is 15 years old, and Nikoloz is 10 years old. They have intellectual disabilities. We live on their disability pensions. The children have been without medication for over a week, and I don’t have money to take them to the doctor.
“Their father hasn’t lived with us for six months. He doesn’t even care if we are alive or dead.”
Amiran (15-year-old): Tell everyone who reads our story that I love them! You are all very kind and good. And give them a note from me. Show it to everyone. Let them know we are really hoping for help. We have no one else but you.
“Mom said the Chernovetskyi Fund is our last hope!”
