Gio (6 years old): “My little brother is 9 months old, mother’s milk is not enough for him, and he cries all day from hunger. What should we feed him? The only edible thing we have at home is stale bread. Little Nikoloz won’t be able to chew it, he doesn’t have any teeth yet. But mom has no money for anything else.” Mariam: “If someone has the opportunity to shelter us, to give us one room, I will be immensely grateful. Or, perhaps, there will be a kind person who will help with renting an apartment? We live in an emergency building that can collapse at any moment. What will happen to my children? And where will we go?” Just imagine for a moment that such a misfortune happened to you or your loved ones. What would you do? Help this unfortunate woman raise two sons for the future of our country, our beloved Georgia! There is no one to help her. Her father is dead, her mother is disabled, and she herself needs help. If you do not help such needy people as Mariam and her children, then who does?

“Here is our last lari. What should we buy? Bread for mom and me or matsoni for my brother?” Gio: “When bread gets stale, we heat it up in a frying pan, it becomes softer. Auntie, have you tried fried bread?”
Mariam (mother, 34 years old): “My husband didn’t work and wouldn’t let me go to work. I constantly argued with him about it, and then we got divorced. My poor children and I had nowhere to go, and there was no money to rent an apartment. I passed by this half-ruined building and saw that the doors were wide open. It was scary, but I decided to go in. It was better than spending the night on the street! And so we have been living here ever since.”Mariam: “I’m scared here, because there are no windows or doors. When the children are sleeping, I sit like a guard. So that no one comes in and does us harm. The building is abandoned, alcoholics gather nearby. Who knows what can happen?!”
Mariam: “To feed my children, I started working for a charity, selling icons, candles, and crosses on the street. There was no one to leave the children with, so I took them with me. And the envious saleswoman who worked nearby called the social workers and said that I was allegedly forcing the children to beg on the street. My son was taken away from me. Can you imagine my condition?! I almost went crazy with horror! The child was assigned to a foster family. I tried for a year to get him back. And after long legal proceedings, he is finally with me.”
Gio: “I cried all the time, I wanted to go to my mother. I felt very bad and scared. I would wish to no child to experience what I went through. I never want to be separated from my beloved mother again in my life.”
Mariam: “I cannot allow this hell to happen again! I will not bear it if my children are taken away from me again because of poverty and lack of money. That is why I have contacted you at the foundation so that you can help me arrange our modest life. After all, my children now have no normal beds, no clothes, no shoes, we have no washing machine, no gas stove, no refrigerator. Gio will go to school in September. I have no idea where I will get the money to get my child ready for school?!”
Little Nikoloz doesn’t even have a baby carriage. There’s not enough money for diapers, there are only four diapers left
Gio: “Want me to show you our bathroom? But I don’t go inside, I’m afraid there are huge rats running around there. Take a look yourself, if you’re not afraid! Just be careful!”
Mariam: “I have a baby, I can’t get a job until he grows up. We live on social benefits, which almost entirely go to cover debts. I don’t even have enough money for food. My friend helps me, an unhappy woman like me, from a socially vulnerable family. She brings food from a free canteen and gives half of it to my children, shares her bread. God bless her! If it weren’t for her, we would have died of hunger long ago.”
