When Otar and Tsiuri got married, they often pictured themselves 40 years down the line, laughing joyfully together. The newlyweds envisioned their old age in a warm home, with a cup of hot tea, surrounded by children and grandchildren. They dreamed of a sweet old age, but life’s twists and turns took this couple down a very different path. Get ready, because what I’m about to share will make your soul weep.

REPOST RIGHT AWAY, MY GOOD MAN! HELP YOUR FRIENDS FIND THE WAY TO GOD!

Look at this old couple. Even from this one photograph, you can grasp the tragedy unfolding in the Macharashvili family. How could a couple who was happy from their youth imagine that their old age would be so bitter?

When Otar and Tsiuri got married, they often pictured themselves 40 years down the line, laughing joyfully together. The newlyweds envisioned their old age in a warm home, with a cup of hot tea, surrounded by children and grandchildren. They dreamed of a sweet old age, but life’s twists and turns took this couple down a very different path. Get ready, because what I’m about to share will make your soul weep.

This kind and warm old man has been without his left leg for six years, and he is at risk of having his right leg amputated too. It all began like this:  a few years ago, heavy snow fell in the village of Korbouli in the Sachkhere municipality, blocking the roads and preventing transportation from getting through. People had to walk through snow that reached their waists. One fateful evening, when hardworking Otar Macharashvili was returning home from work, a blizzard was so fierce that he could barely move through the snow. After a while, his leg completely froze and lost all feeling. In that blizzard, there wasn’t a single person who could help him. The man with frostbitten feet barely made it home. But the worst was yet to come:

His left leg was amputated above the knee. He suffered from thrombosis three times and experienced five heart attacks. Then, he developed hepatitis C. During surgery, a vein in his right leg was damaged, and the poor old man still endures excruciating pain.

This is how Tsiuri, feeds her husband, who is now disabled.

Otar has been fortunate in life only in one way: his wife Tsiuri, does the impossible for her beloved husband. The years haven’t shattered the family they built many years ago; true love reigns here.

Every day, the Tsiuri feeds her sick husband with her own hands. However, she herself is seriously ill.  We will soon tell you about the greatest tragedy of this noble woman, dear readers. But for now, I’ll share some scenes that will allow you to feel all the suffering of old man Otar.

Take a look!  The man with the amputated leg, who still endures terrible pain, is chopping firewood with an axe. Oh my, it’s unbelievable! Winter has already come to the village of Korbouli. The poor old couple scraped together money from three months of summer pension to buy firewood, so they wouldn’t freeze in the winter.

Otar finished chopping the wood.  Soon, Tsiuri will light the stove, and in this terrible house, where the windows are broken and the walls rot from dampness, it will at least be a bit warmer.

Tsiuri only heats the stove for two hours a day to keep firewood for the colder days. They won’t be able to buy wood again.

With this walnut, the Tsiuri will make sweets for the New Year and will give them to the village children.

True love conquers all hardships.

The old man drifted off into his thoughts. He recalled the greatest tragedy of his life, which he would never forget, and tears filled his eyes.

First, their daughter died. Then, death took away their son, the child of their dreams.  When a child dies, a parent’s life becomes hell. When two children die, it’s more than hell for the parents!

The grieving mother mourns her two children and now struggles with a serious illness.

Apparently, the hellish pain caused by the death of her children was not enough for the poor woman. Many years ago, a malignant tumor was found in her head. After surgery, she still suffers from headaches. Tsiuri also needed heart surgery after a rare illness. Today, her operated heart has accumulated a large amount of fluid. It bothers her so much that she can’t even sleep at night. She needs a second heart surgery, but the poor old woman has no money even for transportation to see a doctor, as she spent her last pennies on her beloved husband’s medication.

This jacket is what old man Otar wore on the day he started his family. Since then, he has never worn it again in joy. Since that day, only mourning reigned the Macharashvili family: the cries for their two children, illness, hunger, cold, loneliness, despair…

‘What is the meaning of my life?’

The old couple lives in terrible conditions: the windows are broken, the floors are not laid, and even the door doesn’t close properly. The firewood they barely purchased is not enough to properly warm their home and keep out the icy wind. What will help the poor old couple stay warm in the frost when the firewood runs out?

Rainwater from the ceiling is collected in this pot.

Is that their front door?

Does the old lady Tsiuri deserve such a terrible kitchen? Even at a dump, there are better things.

When the fund’s correspondent left the Macharashvili home, the old lady Tsiuri felt sad. Who knows when someone else will enter the rusty gates of the Macharashvili home in the village of Korbouli?

‘Bless you, all the good people who help those in need, even a little.  There is no distinction between great and small kindness – all acts of kindness matter. Only the chosen ones of God can do good. Perhaps I will die soon, but I wish long life to all good people living in Georgia, regardless of nationality or religion.  The Lord is one. Only good deeds bring us closer to the Lord!’ These were the words spoken by old lady Tsiuri as she stood at the doorstep, apologizing to the fund’s correspondent for not being able to walk him to the gate. The thing is, during the rains, their home sits in a puddle of water, and the poor old lady has no winter shoes to keep her feet dry. Oh God, no old man deserves such a bitter old age!

The only hope for the poor old couple now rests with you, good people. Who knows, maybe one day a novel will be written about the tragic love of Tsiuri and Otar (not ‘Romeo and Juliet’), and the whole world will learn how old grandmothers and grandfathers can love in Georgia.”
