In our beloved Georgia, many people are not just below the poverty line – They are in tremendous need! And the worst part is – they have no one to rely on except for us. If we don’t help, some will become lifelong incurable cripples, others will die, and still others will perish from unbearable suffering! Schoolchildren won’t attend school – they have nothing to put on! They lack basic gadgets! They’re alone – like in a wild desert – alone with sorrow and suffering! Social allowance in Georgia are lower than in many African countries! The country is emptying: no jobs, no future… Without us, friends! And we just have to give them a chance at life, to give them pride in the country, in its good people, who for thousands of years have historically helped all who have come to us!

Due to the incessant itching, the baby cries day and night without relief! “Nicholas’s whole body is covered in sores. His skin is cracked, itchy, and bleeding. Exhausted, he is ready to tear his skin off, and when he is not allowed to scratch his wounded body, he cries and screams so much that it breaks my, my sick mother’s, and my husband’s hearts! – says Mariam, the boy’s mother. And all this horror happens just because the doctors made the wrong diagnosis. Such a cute boy! Poor thing almost died during the week he spent in the intensive care unit!”

The worst part is that the children suffer here! They not only breathe air poisoned by mold but also endure the air of disdain among their peers and certain teachers at school! This is three-year-old Giorgi. The child is hungry, and the only food in the house is one piece of bread. The starving boy started to eat the bread eagerly but then stopped. His big blue eyes looked up at the foundation’s correspondent, and timidly, he offered her the only piece he had, saying: “Auntie, you must be hungry too.  Please, eat.” This kind boy’s clothes are so worn out that even a dump might have better options. The boy is sick, running a high fever, and has the flu. But his single mother cannot afford to buy medicine due to extreme poverty. The child can no longer bear the hardship, illness, and suffering, and so he cries bitterly. Look into his eyes, even for a moment! Do you think this is a scene from a dramatic movie? It’s not. No actor could ever portray the pain in the eyes of this little angel. And yet, he’s only three years old.

The Makhitashvili family, whose fragile roof collapsed during a hurricane, no longer has to huddle in a temporary shelter. From an abandoned school building, they’ve finally returned to their home. Who knows how long they might have suffered if the Chernovetskyi Fund hadn’t written letters to the officials responsible for their welfare. The result of our reminder was impressive – the local administration stepped in and built the Makhitashvili family a new roof.
