When a mother loses her child, her heart dies with them. Her life comes to an end, and only prayers to the Almighty keep her on this Earth—prayers filled with the desperate hope that the Lord will return her beloved child and let her hold them close once again. And this time—forever!

For millennia, humanity has failed to invent a word that could fully capture the pain of a mother whose child has passed away.

73-year-old Mzia, a kind and warm-hearted woman, lost her son and then both of her grandsons. The stress and grief took a cruel toll on her body – colon cancer crept up on the poor elderly woman. Tragedy never comes alone!

This is 73-year-old grandmother Mzia. She has been diagnosed with rectal cancer. Her intestines are exposed, protruding painfully from her body.

The elderly woman suffers from excruciating pain every day. With her own hands, she treats her wound, wiping away the fluids that constantly seep from it. She doesn’t even have a single extra tetri to buy special wound-cleaning solution or medical dressings. She has almost given up hope, fearing that without proper bandages and medication, she will inevitably die from a severe infection and sepsis.

This hug with her mom could be the last for the beautiful 16-year-old Maggie. How terrifying! Her loving mother has already died once – her heart stopped! And only a miracle brought her back to life! Now her heart is kept beating by a pacemaker! But for how long? Meet Zhanna, friends: she is 44 years old. Not long ago, the heart of this still young woman suddenly stopped! It stopped completely, and death approached.  The ambulance brought her, almost dead, to the hospital. Her only 16-year-old daughter wept bitterly over the loss of her mother. And then the Lord worked a miracle – a true miracle, and the doctors who witnessed it kept crossing themselves for a long time afterward!  The doctors performed emergency surgery and implanted a pacemaker. Zhanna urgently needs repeat heart surgery; otherwise, her chances of survival are less than one percent. However, cursed poverty prevents the unfortunate mother from getting this urgent surgery. Medications temporarily sustain the desperate woman, but meager social allowance does not even allow her to buy the medications! According to the documents, the value of a Georgian woman’s life has been set at $8,300—money the unfortunate woman has never even seen.

Mariam miraculously survived a horrific car accident. It was a fateful taxi ride, and another car crashed into theirs at high speed. Two people died on the spot, and doctors can say they pieced the young woman back together. Most of her vital organs were damaged, and she had to have her spleen and gallbladder removed. But another blow awaited her: doctors discovered tumors in Mariam’s spleen. She endures excruciating pain that worsens every day, yet she holds back her tears. The family lives in extreme poverty, relying solely on social allowance.  There is no money for medications or exams.

Every time Gela experiences an attack, he feels like he’s saying goodbye to life.  The ambulance might not make it in time to save him.   He struggles to breathe, unable to take even a single breath in or out. An oxygen concentrator is Gela’s only chance to survive, but he doesn’t have the money to buy one. His disability pension and 30-lari social allowance can’t even cover the medications cost. Every time he has an attack, the ambulance team has to come and revive him. Friends, Gela doesn’t remember a single joyful day in his life.  He was in fourth grade when his mother got sick, and he had to take on the responsibility of caring for the family.   This little boy milked a cow and cooked meals all by himself. He’s been through so much hardship and deserves a peaceful old age and the most basic comfort.  There’s no one else he can turn to but us!  Together, we can give Gela a chance to keep living!

Imagine the moral suffering this young woman endures! And she still has to become a wife and mother! For a woman, being disabled is one of the greatest tragedies in the world! Those of you reading this post right now, imagine for a moment your beloved daughter suffering from such a terrible physical defect! Thanks to modern technology, it’s possible to restore this beautiful girl to full health. But she needs Western doctors and very expensive materials. Ani is too shy to ask for help with getting a prosthesis. “How can I bother strangers?” she whispered, bowing her head so that I, the reporter, wouldn’t see the tears in her eyes. Dear friends! For Liana, every day is a battle for life. Every movement is painful – physically and emotionally – but she refuses to give up. Her nightmare began the moment she felt a small lump in her breast. The diagnosis was devastating – stage four cancer.

Liana, 59: “I’ve been hospitalized so many times. I’ve had countless IVs and injections.  On top of that, I survived sepsis – a blood infection that nearly killed me. But I made it through. Still, I’m left with an unpaid bill – 700 lari for my treatment in intensive care. I have no idea how to pay it off. I also need follow-up tests, but I simply can’t afford them. I spent 30 years working as a dog trainer, but now I have no strength left. My only hope is your Fund and the kindness of strangers.”

Liana is wasting away before our eyes… She can barely bring herself to look in the mirror.

She has already undergone ten sessions of radiation therapy. But her tumor is so aggressive that the cancer has spread to her bones and brain. 

With each passing day, her condition worsens. Every minute counts. She suffers from unbearable pain and extreme weakness. 

She can hardly get out of bed. Severe dizziness makes it impossible for her to walk without assistance. For almost three months, she hasn’t seen the sun.
