“His chances are almost zero,” the doctors said. But Giorgi survived a horrific accident and 17 surgeries. Now he needs our help to take his first step again.

In Georgia, lives can change forever in a single moment. But the story of 29-year-old Giorgi is also a story of extraordinary courage. He went to Poland to earn money, dreaming of building a future and starting a family. Then, in a single instant, everything changed. Giorgi told the Fund’s correspondent that a car suddenly crossed into the wrong lane. Trying to save another person’s life, Giorgi swerved his car. But he could not save his own. His car plunged into a ravine from a great height. 

Giorgi was thrown through the window, and seconds later the car itself crashed down on top of him. The impact struck directly against his spine.

• 17 extremely difficult surgeries.

• Complete dependence on his mother, who changes the dressings on his severe bedsores every day and literally carries her grown son in her arms.

In this photo, Giorgi is holding his little nephew. For moments like these, he continues fighting for his life every single day. 

Giorgi, 29-year-old: “My dream is to stand on my feet again and be able to take care of myself. And more than anything, I dream of holding my little nephew in my arms. I always wanted to become a father…”

Why is help needed right now?

After the first stages of treatment, something incredible happened – Giorgi began moving his arms again. Doctors now give a hopeful prognosis: if he receives intensive rehabilitation immediately, he has a real chance of walking again. But if treatment stops now, his muscles and joints may permanently atrophy.

Giorgi’s family is exhausted. They have sold everything they owned. His father was injured at a construction site and can no longer work. Our Fund is now their last hope. The Ministry previously funded part of Giorgi’s rehabilitation, but the available support has already been exhausted. Now his future depends entirely on the kindness of others. 

He survived by a miracle.   Now he needs a human miracle.

Please help Giorgi continue his rehabilitation. Even a small donation can bring closer the day when he takes his first step again.
