Until the age of seven, Tedo couldn’t move a single finger. He wouldn’t have been able to swat away a wasp even if it were eating his eye. The doctors said he would die, but his mother brought him back from the brink every time! Before you is a gravely ill and unfortunate but handsome Georgian boy, Tedo! Until the age of seven, he lay in bed neither alive nor dead. During childbirth, the baby likely slipped from the hands of the midwife and injured his head, even though he was born perfectly healthy! A tragedy beyond comparison befell Tedo’s family! One day, a wasp landed on the boy’s eye, and he couldn’t brush it away. Unlike bees, wasps sting without provocation. They are just aggressive! It’s a miracle that Shorena, the boy’s mother, was always by his side. Just a second more, and Tedo might have lost his eye! My God, unfortunately, you have heard so many such stories from us, friends, about many Georgian hospitals, especially those located in the provinces, far away from Tbilisi.

Of course, they didn’t have the courage to confess this to the mother, so they handed her the baby without warning her about the possible consequences. But they forgot that there is a God, and He has destined Georgian mothers to make sacrifices for the sake of saving their children!
Shorena: “Shortly after the incident, my husband gave me an ultimatum: ‘It’s either me or this sick freak!’ And here I am before you, and here is my choice!”
Shorena: I was left with three children in my arms. In order to buy medications for Tedo and take him to massages, my eldest son, Tornike, who was 11 at the time, and I gathered blueberries and sold them on the beach. During this time, Tedo’s younger brother, Toma, who was 7 at the time, stayed with him. Day by day, helping each other, we managed to arrange our home and start living like human beings. And as the children grew up, they began to work, doing everything to ensure Tedo lacked nothing. We did the impossible. Tedo stood up and took steps… But it turned out, the hardest part was still ahead for me.
– What happened, Shorena? And why is there such chaos all around?!
Shorena: When everything was going well and God gave us 12 years of happy life, suddenly there was a fire, and in just 20 minutes everything we had built up turned into ashes, dust, and rubble. Our house caught fire, and everything burned to the ground. Thank God we survived, but we were left only with the clothes we were wearing at the time of the fire.
– How did you survive?
Shorena: God saved us. We weren’t at home. I was at an interview, Tedo was at the day center, and my youngest son and daughter-in-law were at work. If we had all been at home, you wouldn’t be talking to us now! And Georgia wouldn’t have known about our tragedy! We would have all burned alive!
I would never have dared to ask people for help. Because even without us, there is already so much suffering among people in Georgia. But now we are completely helpless. We live in someone else’s house, and we need to find the strength to start over from scratch. But the worst part is that I can’t explain to Tedo why we’re here! And my poor sick son sits on someone else’s uncomfortable bed and moans: “My bed, my bed…” Due to a nervous breakdown, he began to experience terrible pain in his spine!
“Something grew on Tedo’s spine. Because of this, Tedo experiences excruciating pain and cannot walk. He developed a hump on his back, and he feels unwell.”
– My God, are there any worldly horrors that you have been spared from?
Shorena: No! I even experienced on my own skin what it means to lose a child. 25 years ago, when she was one year old, my daughter died. She wasn’t sick, she didn’t have any health problems… She just didn’t wake up. With the body of my dead daughter in my arms, I went to hospitals to have an autopsy done and to understand what had happened to her. I was young, it was the first blow of fate for me, and after that, I never saw a happy day… After her, Tedo was born, and what happened next, I have already told you.
– Why do you think some people suffer so much? What’s the reason?
Shorena: It’s like a curse. I’m sure every suffering is payment for the sins of our ancestors.
– What could your ancestors have done wrong to cause you such problems? Not everyone could cope with it.
Shorena: Since my parents are no longer alive and this won’t hurt their feelings, I’ll tell you. I was in love with a very good and kind boy, and he loved me very much too. Like Romeo and Juliet… But my parents were against our union. My mother said she would kill herself if I married him.
– Why? Were there any reasons?
Shorena: That boy had a sick sister, and my mother said she didn’t want me to spend my whole life taking care of the sick, that his sister would be a burden on me… I was young, I couldn’t resist my mother… I thought: I’ll grow up and marry my beloved. But I wasn’t even 17 when my husband, a completely stranger, kidnapped me. I think that’s also my mother’s doing. I wanted to leave him, but I wasn’t accepted back home, and my mother persuaded me to stay… That’s how it all happened.
– Oh God! You’ve faced exactly what your mother tried to protect you from…
Shorena: Sometimes I wonder: if she hadn’t intervened in my fate back then, how would I have lived? But it’s impossible to know… What’s done is done… I never blame God. I always thank Him for the trials He sends me and ask for strength to endure and overcome them.
Don’t think I’m clinging to life. Sometimes it feels like I’ve been dead for a long time already. I can’t leave this world until I get my martyr, Tedo, back on his feet. I’ve poured so much effort into him, transforming him from an immobile child into a living one. “I can’t afford to give up now and let everything run on its own. Just a year ago, he could stand up and take steps on his own. I learned to give him massages, and he could hold a cup in his hand. But a year ago, a growth appeared on his spine, it’s growing and causing him excruciating pain, and because of it, Tedo hunched over and stopped walking. I’m afraid that if I can’t do something for him now, he’ll end up just as immobile as he was in childhood, and that would spell disaster.
My eldest son went to work in Greece to earn money for exams and surgeries, but he got caught working on a construction site illegally as soon as he got there. He had good intentions, but things always seem to go awry. Everywhere I turn, it’s just one problem after another. We used to cope with problems, but at least we had a roof over our heads, and now we don’t even have that.
“For 25 years, I’ve been spoon-feeding him and tending to him like a baby.”
– Isn’t anyone helping you? Hasn’t the state provided funds for repairs?
Shorena: The state gave me 5000 lari. What can that amount cover? I don’t have parents, haven’t seen my husband in 17 years… I’m alone, and I have three sons. I never would have burdened others or asked for help, but I simply have no other choice. Without your compassion and support, we won’t survive. Please, help us…
– I was so shocked by what I heard that I even forgot to ask what you live on?
Shorena: My son’s pension and my youngest son Toma’s salary. He works as a courier. You understand, we’ll never be able to save enough for treatment.
“Only faith in God keeps us going and helps us maintain our dignity.”
– What can we do to help you?
Shorena: Not for me, but for my Tedo. Please, help us go to Turkey for exams and surgery. I won’t be able to handle it if he becomes as helpless as he was in his early years again!
Dear friends! From one story to the next, the Lord God has brought over 130,000 people to the Fund to aid those in need. It’s truly a miracle! Such a united effort is unparalleled in other parts of the world. No matter that 90 percent of these kind-hearted people are not wealthy, but we know for sure that they, like us in the Fund, are close to the Creator, and together we can always rely on each other. We’ve formed our own Georgia – a place of kindness and help! And God has blessed us with journalists who have the gift of sharing others’ sorrows in a way that touches your hearts.
Be blessed, dear friends, and may sorrow always pass you by. Remember, those you’ve assisted are forever praying for your well-being!
The story of Shorena and her son Tedo is striking in its cruelty. Imagine that from the first moments of life, your child is confined to a bed, unable to even move a finger. Deprived of hope from birth, he becomes the center of the world for his mother, who, against all odds, has been fighting for his health for 25 years now. Their life is a series of trials that both strengthen and simultaneously destroy. But even in this hell, there is room for love and hope.
Shorena asks for help for her son to go to Turkey for examination and surgery. Each of us may find ourselves in a situation where the help of strangers becomes the only salvation. The story of Shorena and Tedo is not just a tale of suffering; it’s a cry for help that cannot be ignored. Let’s not remain indifferent. “Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy” (Matthew 5:7). It is within our power to help this family regain their home, hope, and future. Help now, before it’s too late, and perhaps you will not only give Tedo life, but also happiness.
If you are willing to visit the family and help them in person, here is their address: Batumi, Tamara’s Settlement, Tbeti Turn #6.
Every time you can help someone, just do it, and rejoice that God answers someone’s prayers through you!
