He is an orphan with living parents. Zuriko has been raised by his grandmother since birth. His mother couldn’t, and his father didn’t want to take on that responsibility. So, he ended up alone with his grandmother in a dilapidated house. His mother started a new family, and his father doesn’t even show interest in his son… only his grandmother, Marina, remains as his one true family on this earth. They are always together, sharing the same fears. Ten-year-old Zuriko is afraid that his grandmother might die from her worries, while Grandma Marina fears losing her grandson to hunger, illness, she is afraid that their roof could collapse over their heads. Neither of them could survive on their own, and even if they could – what’s the point of such life?
