Anna (mom): And now I have two seriously ill children in my arms and a life full of suffering! Because I feel everything that my children feel! Every mother in the world has such a connection with their children. “Poor Nikoloz was oprated on his legs three times. And according to the doctors, he won’t survive a fourth surgery! They advise against it… But who knows? Maybe the friends of the Fund have surgeons who will give another advice?”. For 31-year-old Anna, every day begins with a battle. Her hands tirelessly toil, she does everything with love and utmost effort! But in the silence of the night, when her children fall asleep and the world stands still, her soul trembles with pain. “If it weren’t for my husband, I would have collapsed myself. The children especially need affection – they constantly ask us to pick them up. And my husband has a severely diseased heart – he needs treatment too! I won’t survive alone! He’s such a kind person, he worries so much about the children.”

0901200270I would never condemn another child to eternal suffering! The doctors said that cerebral palsy doesn’t repeat. “Give birth another child, give birth quickly and you’ll calm down!” And I believed them! Lord, what a grief! God forbid anyone!

“Nikolozi’s condition is especially bad: everything hurts him, his spine is curved and pressing on all his internal organs”
REPOST RIGHT AWAY, MY GOOD MAN! HELP YOUR FRIENDS FIND THE WAY TO GOD!
– Anna, tell us about your children.
Anna: Nikoloz is my firstborn! Oh God, I waited for him so eagerly! I closed my eyes and imagined all the joys of motherhood. But Nika was born unhealthy. He was diagnosed with cerebral palsy. And while I awaited the final diagnosis, doctors urged me to have another child! And I became pregnant immediately. Would I ever have condemned my second child to suffer?
Only after the birth of my second child did it occur to the doctors to take a sample from me, and it turned out that the disease is genetic! How could this happen? Why don’t they perform such tests on mothers before their sick and unfortunate children are born?! What did my children do to deserve this punishment? Why do my husband and I, along with tens of thousands like us in Georgia, suffer?
“The children have a genetic disorder – a defect in the second chromosome. Both have cerebral palsy and intellectual disability.”
“Thank God, unlike Nikoloz, Barbara can stand, sit, and say individual words.”
They started to treat Barbare on time, and she has shown progress in her development. Despite her intellectual disability, she goes to school. She hasn’t learned to read and count, but she communicates with her peers, and that makes her happy. And my poor Nikoloz’s only joy is to hug his mom! Who will explain why he wasn’t treated in time?!
My poor, poor my Nikoloz! He is utterly helpless! He has only one joy in life – to hug and cuddle against my breast! I love him very much!”
– How do you manage to cope, who helps you?
Anna: We are in a very dire situation. Neither my husband nor I have any means of our own. Right now, we are living in a hostel at a rehabilitation center. The children need massages, exercises. There is a daytime center here where parents bring their special children. You know, when we are together and communicate, life doesn’t seem so nightmarish!
“The allowance barely covers our food.”
– What do you live on?
Anna: On allowance and pensions… But half of this money goes towards covering a debt at the bank. When we needed money for Nikoloz’s surgery, we took 4500 GEL credit from “Liberty Bank”. For six years, I paid huge sums for me – 150 GEL per month, and then it turned out that I was only paying interest, and the actual debt amount wasn’t decreasing! That’s how they profit from families with sick children. They know we have nowhere else to turn, that the lives of our tortured children are at stake, and they do whatever they want with us.
– My God! This is theft!
Anna: I don’t want to talk about it. It won’t help! It’s scary that my health is failing too, but I’m afraid to go to the doctor. What if they say something terrible, what if they prescribe expensive medications… So I wait… As long as I can stand on my feet, I stand.
“I wake up in the morning and can barely get up. I have no strength left. But for the sake of the children, I can go to hell and come back every day.”
No one needs us! Please! I beg you! Don’t let me fall! Don’t let my children become orphans! Help! My husband and I – we must live for the sake of our children! We need so many things. But I don’t know how to ask. The friends of your Fund themselves know what people like us need – people without a roof over their heads, without diapers and medicines, without medical examinations, without massages, with a cursed loan that we will never be able to repay without the help of kind people! Forgive me, forgive me for complaining! There is no one else to complain to!
– Anna, you are a young beautiful woman! You shouldn’t treat yourself like this!
Anna: What else can I do? Since I was nineteen, I have been suffering because of my children’s torment. I had completely different plans, but apparently, that’s how God decided. I was studying to be a nurse – I wanted to finish technical school and then continue my education at the university. My husband also supported me, said he would help with the children, take care of them, go for walks… But look at how everything turned out. After Nikoloz was born, I can’t even remember when I slept soundly. Even at night, I listen to their breathing!
“When we’re together, life doesn’t seem so nightmarish and terrible.”
– Don’t you have any dreams left?
Anna: Right now, I only dream of one thing: for my children not to suffer, for the treatment to work, for Barbara to improve. And I have such a dream: I want to take massage courses to massage my children myself and to help others. I have nursing skills. But these courses cost 400 GEL, and I’m even afraid to dream of such luxury.
“I dream of taking massage courses to help my children myself and make their lives easier.”
– Anna, what would you say to mothers who are just starting their hard journey?
Anna: I warn you, my dear ones! Do not borrow money from the bank! It’s better to kneel down and ask for help, knock on every door, ask people, acquaintances, strangers, but don’t borrow money from the bank! Another warning: don’t trust strangers who tell you that for some amount of money they can take you abroad and cure you. Many unscrupulous people make money from our misfortune! Be careful! Befriend other mothers. We’ve seen a lot already and can at least offer you some warm words of support!
“Mothers, hold on! Mothers, be strong! Your children need you.”
– It’s good that you reached out to us for help!
Anna: We can’t cope anymore. We’re slowly dying! Any amount you can donate will be a huge help to us. My heart bleeds when I see the helpless smiles of my children. And their feeble attempts to do something that is taken for granted by others just destroy me. I want to take their pain and suffering upon myself, but I know I can’t.
The pain of a mother’s soul knows no end. She feels lonely and exhausted, but every day she lifts her head and continues forward because she is a mother. Her children are her everything, and she is ready to go through hell and back just to see a smile on their faces.
So, when you see mothers of sick children, when you see their smiles, remember that behind those smiles lies an ocean of pain and sorrow.
Let’s be generous with our hearts and hands, helping them financially, emotionally, and morally. We can raise funds for treatment and rehabilitation, provide them with the support and care they so desperately need. Every little help can turn into a big step towards easing their suffering.
May our solidarity and compassion be a ray of light in their dark days and give them strength and faith in better days ahead.
