REPOST RIGHT AWAY, MY GOOD MAN! HELP YOUR FRIENDS FIND THE WAY TO GOD!

This is the same person. Take care of yourselves, friends! This is what illnesses and fear of death at the hands of a very sick son do to people! During a schizophrenic episode, the son strangles his mother, who is bedridden, and screams with an inhuman voice!

Name of this young Georgian woman is Anna.  Every single day, she sacrifices her life and happiness to care for her mother and brother!

A head injury turned the kindest and calmest young man, who once rallied in support of President Gamsakhurdia in a crowd, into a ruthless beast! He was beaten so badly on the head that he is now severely ill with schizophrenia.

"Every time he comes out of the psychiatric clinic, he may suddenly approach and strike. He tries to find an axe to chop us up! At such moments of his miserable life, he painfully hallucinates horrible things: he sees snakes in me and mom and wants to get rid of us, definitely by chopping us into pieces with an axe!"

Anna: "None of my dreams were meant to come true! When my father passed away, I was studying in my third year at the pedagogical institute, I was an attractive young woman, I could have gotten married. Could have become a mother! But can I abandon my mother and sick brother?!  Tell me (addressing the correspondent), you're Georgian too, would you have done the same?"

"For the sake of my brother's and mother's treatment, we sold everything and now we're living in a rundown shack that my grandparents built ages ago."

"And this is our toilet."

"The ceiling has rotted away and collapsed!  I sleep next to my mother, sitting up. Only chickens sleep like this!"

"The windows and doors are falling apart from old age."

"No matter who you are or what you do to me, no matter how scared I am of you, you're my family, and I won't abandon you! I'll die with you, die for you!"

Are we really going to let them die? Wise men say there are no hopeless situations!

As I began rereading the text, I started feeling queasy... My daughter brought me some water... Now I'm at a loss on how to wrap up this narrative. And honestly, I can't in good conscience recommend all the Fund's friends to read through my story till the end.

I would say that nobody cares about these people except for us. Until we start providing them with consistent help, whether it's through money, advice, or prayers, I won't be able to rest easy! I'm sorry...

"If there was money for treatment and medication, I think we would have a much easier life," this deeply unhappy young woman said as I walked away from her in tears. But I personally don't think so. Anna is simply not used to the attention of other people. And she doesn't know our hearts and how we want to please God!

  Corr.: Nino

- Anna, where should we start your story?

Anna: This isn't a story; it's a journal of torture and trials spanning a whole lifetime, which becomes more unbearable with each passing year. It all started 30 years ago when my brother was severely beaten because of his political views. They mostly targeted his head and face, and he never fully recovered from it. Dad took him to Moscow to see the best doctors - neurologists, psychologists, psychiatrists, but they couldn't help him. From being the quietest and most peaceful person, he turned into a monster! He became aggressive. He said so terrible things to us! While dad was alive, he could restrain him, suppress his aggression. But his heart couldn't take it! What is it like to watch your only son, the family's successor, go mad? And so, 21 years ago, he passed away.

- How did you cope with your brother after your father's death?

Anna: We tried to treat him, but he refused to take his medication. He had hallucinations; he said that my mom and I were snakes, and he chased us with an axe. How many times my mom and I hid from him in the field! We spent the night there and came back in the morning when he was asleep.

- Why didn't you seek help from the police or the authorities?

Anna: I've turned to everyone. They won't put him in prison; he's a sick person, and they only admit him to a mental hospital twice a year.  He goes through a treatment program there, and afterward, he comes out calmer. Then, for a while, he behaves normally, even stays with mom while I go to the store or pharmacy. But then, apparently, the treatment wears off, and he enters an aggressive phase again. Just yesterday, he almost killed us. Before, when mom was relatively healthy and could stand on her own feet, I could leave her with my brother and work. I'm a trained educator, used to be a teacher in elementary school. At least there was food back then. And we weren't walking barefoot. But now, there's neither food nor warmth... We almost froze to death in the winter cold. This is the building of my ancestors, it's hard to call it a house. It's drafty from every side. Everything is decayed, old, dilapidated...

- Now I understand why your mother is in such a state...

Anna: It's like she's completely shut down! She doesn't remember anything at all. That's probably for the best. She doesn't recognize me, doesn't remember her own name, can't move, and ends up soiling herself.  And I don't even have money for diapers. I wash all of it in icy water from the well. I don't know how I haven’t lost my mind or died yet. Do you know how hard it is to lift her, change her, bathe her? She weighs around a hundred kilograms. This is the third stroke that's finished her. Twice I saved her - sold everything and got my mom back on her feet. And now I can't - there's not even money for plain medications.

"Water isn't piped into the house, I wash and launder in icy water that I I bring from the well."

"There are gaps in the floor, and cold drafts come through them."

"And a rat or even a snake could crawl through the hole under the front door”.

- My heart can't take it anymore. I'm barely holding back tears...

Anna: But imagine enduring this every single day? For six years, I've been sleeping semi-upright, like chickens do, with one eye open. Mom throws off her blanket and then she freezes. If, God forbid, I fall into a deep sleep, in the morning I'll find her frozen. So about twenty times a night I get up, cover her... I still don't understand why she sometimes starts screaming in the middle of the night. If she wakes my brother up, it's a real disaster! With mom shouting on one side and my brother on the other, and me in the middle trying to calm them down.

"And here I am, a student... I had so many plans!"

- Have you ever been happy?

Anna: Only three years of being a student. I studied at the Sukhumi Pedagogical Institute, God, how happy I was in those years!  I had such big plans for life!  I had plenty of admirers, marriage proposals were pouring in, but I turned them all down. I wanted to focus on my studies, then build a career, earn some money... But none of my dreams ever came true. I was in the last year of my studies when this happened to my brother, and then the war started, and then everything went downhill.

“This is my family. My two closest and most beloved people. And every minute I worry about them.  I'm afraid that my brother might kill my mom...

- Why didn't you start a family?

Anna: Are you kidding me? Who would have taken care of my brother and mom? Or should I have left my mom with a sick heart alone with her crazy son? I couldn't do that. My mom said she could handle it, that I should think about my future, but I couldn't. My mom was too good for such a fate...

- So, one can say that you sacrificed your youth, your future to your mother and brother?

Anna: That's the way it is. But I had no other way. I always felt sorry for my mom, she had a hard fate. My dad was a philanderer. He was rarely at home. And Mom put up with it all. I don't remember a single bad word from her. How could I leave her? I didn't leave her, I was with her all the time. And you know what kills me? She doesn't recognize me now. I wash her, dress her in clean clothes, comb her hair, say sweet words to her: “My dear mommy, my beautiful mommy,” and she says: “Who are you?” It makes me want to cry. This is the only person I love, the closest, the most adored - and she doesn't recognize me. She doesn't even remember her own name.

- Anna, is there anything we can do to help you?

Anna: I don't even know. It's a vicious circle. There's no way out. I don't have the medicines to treat my mom. I dream that good specialists will examine her, maybe prescribe something useful. I know she won't get back on her feet, but maybe she'll remember something, maybe she'll talk to me. I also need medication for my brother. And I'll ask for water to be piped into our house. Maybe later we can even install a washing machine and heat the water. And we need a refrigerator, diapers, hygiene products... Well, I’ll stop burdening you ... You're already shedding tears. Thank you for listening. Thank you for paying attention. I know your Fund has a lot on its plate. There are many sick children, and of course, they need help first, but I'm in despair...

REPOST RIGHT AWAY, MY GOOD MAN! HELP YOUR FRIENDS FIND THE WAY TO GOD!

This is the epilogue. Normally, this is where I wrap up my article and urge you, my readers, to take action. But right now, I'm in tears. I don't even know what to say, or what to ask of you. Who is Anna? Is she a hero? A martyr? A saint? Her two most cherished people - her mother and brother - have become ensnared in the grip of illness. Her mom Tsiala survived three strokes, and her brother, afflicted with severe schizophrenia, has become not just a burden to the family, but also a source of fear and danger. Anna, who had dedicated herself to looking after them, found herself caught in a cycle of endless despair, from which, it seemed, there was no way out. Here are her words: "No matter who you are, no matter what you do to me, no matter how much I may fear you, you are my family, and I won't abandon you!  I'll die together with you, I'll die instead of you!" This could become an anthem of humanity...

We pray to You, Lord, that Anna will not be forsaken by strength and common sense. That she may carry her heavy cross with dignity. And thank You, Lord, for giving us the opportunity to meet this woman. She will be an example to us of selfless, unconditional love and devotion. We will help her, we will ease her life.
