This is 84-year-old Tamila Gagua. Her life is so tragic that even the Holy Mother might shed bitter tears… The story I’m about to tell will make your blood run cold. A tragedy that will be remembered for centuries. It all began many years ago, on a snowy winter day, when a lonely, widowed old woman in the village of Chognari was visited by her only son from Kaliningrad (where he was serving in the army). Her son got married there. Grandmother Tamila welcomed her daughter-in-law as her own daughter. But the most important part is yet to come. When Grandma Tamila saw her son holding a one-year-old boy with big eyes, she immediately knew it was her grandson, and she almost lost her mind with happiness. But her joy turned out to be premature. The boy was underdeveloped, he could not walk.

Grandmother Tamila is 84 years old, but her love for her gravely ill grandson, who was abandoned at her place in the dead of night by her son and daughter-in-law who cruelly left without saying anything, filled me with incredible admiration!
Look at these eyes. Words are superfluous here.
However, Grandma Tamila’s love did not fade away. On the contrary, her love for her grandson grew stronger every day. One morning, when she woke up to the sound of the child crying, she discovered that neither her son nor her daughter-in-law were in the house. At that moment, the most dreadful thought crossed her mind. You can probably guess what it was. But then she felt ashamed of herself. “Why did I think that? How could parents abandon their own child? Besides, I did not raise my son that way.”
Night fell. The child’s parents were still not there… and then the dark night came. The snow continued to fall. Dogs howled outside. From far away, from the forest on the outskirts of the village, came the eerie howl of wolves. And Grandma Tamila, in a small room lit by a lamp, sang lullabies to the crying child in place of his mother. Yes, the grandmother sang lullabies, and she knew for sure that this night marked the beginning of her transformation into a “mother.” You got that right, dear reader. The parents abandoned their one-year-old sick child without looking back. Yes… That same night, the widowed grandmother turned into a heroic mother.
Grandmother Tamila carried the disabled boy on her back. Time passed. The child abandoned by his parents grew up. His “mother” was Grandma Tamila. She also had to become his “father.” No words can describe what this heroic woman did. She was the whole world for the child. Or rather, more than the world… Grandma Tamila was an icon of the Virgin Mary on earth for little Anzor.
This gift to Grandma Tamila is far more precious than all the gold and diamonds in the world.
Many years have passed, but this faded sheet is still kept by Grandma Tamila. She has nothing more valuable than this piece of paper because her Anzoriko wrote and drew it by his own hand. The 84-year-old grandmother has left a will to place this sheet in the cold coffin when she dies. Because there too, she wants to feel the warmth of Anzoriko. Until she meets her grandson in the Lord’s world, she caresses her grandson only at the gravestone.
“Son, how do you lie in this cold grave? If only I could trade places with you!”
These photographs were taken shortly before Anzor’s death. The young man died at the age of 23.
The elderly woman still keeps Anzor’s student ID. He was an excellent student.
Dear reader, you are probably most interested in what killed this young man. As I already told you, Anzor had leg problems, and that’s probably why his parents abandoned him. However, the lonely old lady did more than she could and with her own labor raised money for the operation. She brought fruits from her garden to the city and sold them. The bent old woman could barely carry the heavy buckets, but for Anzoriko, she could move mountains. She could even fight a dragon. The money for the operation was really raised by this lonely old woman. The boy’s leg was amputated. And then they put in an “artificial leg.” Before Anzor grew up, the hunched-over grandmother carried the boy on her back. Do you think the old woman ever complained? Do you think she ever got tired? Do you think she ever rested on the way? No!!! Never!!! Not once!!!
The child’s father never once remembered to send even two rubles from Russia to Georgia for his own son. And the child’s mother probably bought perfumes while the poor old woman barely carried buckets of fruit to collect money for the boy’s operation. God, where are you at such a time???!!! Why didn’t you look down from the heavens at least once at this cursed earth? Why didn’t you send a flood to wash away all the heartless mothers once and for all? The earth cannot bear the weight of their sins.
The heroic grandmother saved money for two operations for Anzoriko. Both operations were successful. The old woman was on cloud nine with joy. Her pride, her grandson, had turned 23. Or rather, her son. But one dark night, Satan laughed loudly… Do you know what night that was??? Exactly like 22 years ago, “that night,” when the crying baby was abandoned by his parents in the cradle.
And even now, on this night, Satan laughed loudly. The grandmother and grandson were sound asleep. Outside, the howling of the wolves was heard again, just as it was then, 22 years ago, “that night”. A wolf does not leave a member of its family alone for the rest of its life. And it is still called a predator. Some non-humans are still called “humans”. God, where’s the justice?
It began to get light… the howling of wolves was replaced by the crowing of a rooster, just as described in the Bible when Peter, awaiting crucifixion, denied Jesus three times before the rooster crowed.
And suddenly… the moment froze. The world of the heroic grandmother collapsed in an instant. Yes, death took her Anzoriko. The young man died of a thrombus. The wailing of the grief-stricken old woman reached the heavens. “I beg You, bring him back to life, Lord. You can do that.” On the day of the funeral, the grandmother begged the gravediggers not to lower the coffin into the ground yet and to wait another minute. The grief-stricken old woman firmly believed that the Lord would hear her prayers and return Anzoriko to her.
But… but… it is hard for me to write these words… but maybe we, humans, are so far from the Lord’s world that the voice of our prayers does not reach Him. Or maybe He simply doesn’t want to hear us anymore. Maybe He doesn’t love us anymore. Or maybe it’s all a myth and there is no God… And if there is, where was He when death took away this noble old woman’s only grandson (son), whom she raised in suffering.
Since then, she looks at the sky every morning. Maybe for a second, she will catch a glimpse of her Anzoriko…
The old woman looks in the mirror and reads her life, full of suffering, in her own eyes.
Grandma Tamila looks through a photo album of her youth. It turns out, this is what life was preparing for…
Grandma Tamila before marriage. How joyful and happy she was.
The 84-year-old woman looks through photos of her youth every day. She was a successful actress. She played leading roles in the theater. She had a great future ahead of her. However, after marriage, her career became a thing of the past. In 1966, her young husband died in an accident. Widowed at a young age, she raised her only son all alone. He lacked nothing. Above all, she gave him spiritual nourishment. Despite this, her son (Anzoriko’s father) turned out to be a coward. Even an animal would not abandon its own child. Despite everything, the mother never once turned away from her own son and hoped he would return to Anzoriko. However, on the day of the boy’s funeral, Grandma Tamila made the hardest decision of her life—she buried the memories of her living son on the day she placed Anzoriko’s coffin in the cold ground.
Today, Grandma Tamila lives alone in a wooden house over a hundred years old. The house is falling apart before the old woman’s eyes. It rains inside the house just as it does outside. Instead of a floor, there is earth in the house, already forming “holes.” The dilapidated house is in such a state that it cannot be repaired. The rooms are darker than a grave.
The walls are cracked, and one day the whole house will collapse.
Do you know what the last day of this old woman’s life will be like? They’ll be looking for her mutilated body in the ruins of that damn house. Does this heroine deserve such an end? Will we ever forgive ourselves for this? We couldn’t save the poor boy from death, but we can at least ease the rest of this suffering old woman’s life a bit. A small wooden house with one room and a small kitchen – how much would it cost so the people of Georgia couldn’t afford it?
