Every time Gela experiences an attack, he feels like he’s saying goodbye to life.  The ambulance might not make it in time to save him.   He struggles to breathe, unable to take even a single breath in or out. An oxygen concentrator is Gela’s only chance to survive, but he doesn’t have the money to buy one. His disability pension and 30-lari social allowance can’t even cover the medications cost. Every time he has an attack, the ambulance team has to come and revive him. Friends, Gela doesn’t remember a single joyful day in his life.  He was in fourth grade when his mother got sick, and he had to take on the responsibility of caring for the family.   This little boy milked a cow and cooked meals all by himself. He’s been through so much hardship and deserves a peaceful old age and the most basic comfort.  There’s no one else he can turn to but us!  Together, we can give Gela a chance to keep living!

REPOST RIGHT AWAY, MY GOOD MAN! HELP YOUR FRIENDS FIND THE WAY TO GOD!

Every time Gela experiences an attack, he feels like he’s saying goodbye to life.  The ambulance might not make it in time to save him.   He struggles to breathe, unable to take even a single breath in or out.

Gela, 57 years old: “In 1999, I spent 60 days in captivity in Abkhazia, where they tortured me horribly—they sawed at me and ripped out my teeth.  They kept me in a damp basement full of mold – there wasn’t a single dry spot. After surviving that nightmare, I developed bronchial asthma and oxygen deficiency. I came home with only eight teeth left, but thank God I survived, thanks in part to the experience I gained in the army. I served in Odessa, in the secret missile forces. I even earned certificates for achievements in combat training and exemplary military discipline.”

Photo from Gela’s army album: Ukraine,  1985–1987.

An oxygen concentrator is Gela’s only chance to survive, but he doesn’t have the money to buy one. His disability pension and 30-lari social allowance can’t even cover the medications cost. Every time he has an attack, the ambulance team has to come and revive him.

Gela: “I barely sleep at night. I’m terrified I’ll fall asleep and never wake up. The worst attacks happen at night. Since I live alone, there’s no one to call for help. I give myself injections directly into my veins – there’s no other choice. I cry and scream as loud as I can, hoping a neighbor will hear me. I divorced my wife 12 years ago. The kids stayed with her and live in Tbilisi, while I’m here in Ganmukhuri, Zugdidi district.”

Gela: “Look at all these used inhalers and syringes. This huge pile built up over just two years.  I had to sell everything valuable I owned to pay for treatment and medications. Now I have nothing left in this half-ruined house.”

Gela: “Have you ever seen anything like this? My kitchen, bathroom, and storage room are all crammed into one room. The walls have huge cracks where the wind blows through, and rain pours in. The boards are rotting and crumbling right before my eyes.”

Gela: “When I’m alone, I cry like a child: ‘Lord, why am I in this miserable condition?  Why? What did I do wrong?’ I have no washing machine, no TV, no stove, no fridge – it broke down, and I sold it for scrap. I used the 10 lari I got to buy medications.”

– What could make your life easier now? How can we help?

Gela: “My inhalation machine is broken, and I can’t survive without it. I’ve also started having heart problems, but I don’t have the money to see a cardiologist. If you could help with groceries, I would be so grateful. Right now, I buy food on credit from the store. And please help me repair my house. The walls need to be reinforced first, and the floor needs linoleum to keep the dampness out. May the Lord bless you, kind people!”
