The cruel hand of death took away Salome and Luka’s beloved mother forever. The poor woman lost her battle with cancer. After their mother’s death, the bright eyes of the siblings dimmed. The smile disappeared from the kind eyes of these angels. And immeasurable sorrow took root in their hearts. The souls of these children ache, their very souls… But humanity has not yet found a cure to heal such pain, and perhaps nothing ever will.
Having lost his mother, 11-year-old Luka tries to help his sister with the housework. The child sweeps the yard in a thin sweater in the freezing winter cold because he has no warm clothes. His little body trembles from the cold, but the fire in his heart burns bright. Only an orphaned child can truly understand the unbearable pain of losing a mother.
After their mother’s death, 13-year-old Salome prepares dinner for her brother. Salome was only 10 years old when she saw her beloved mother’s lifeless body. Even an adult would struggle to endure such a horrific scene. Now imagine a 10-year-old girl witnessing her mother being buried with her own eyes. Oh God, oh God, how did this little angel’s heart endure such horror?

REPOST RIGHT AWAY, MY GOOD MAN! HELP YOUR FRIENDS FIND THE WAY TO GOD!
Luka (11 years old): “When I see mothers hugging other children and taking them to the store, my heart aches so much. I feel completely alone in this world. The life of an orphan is very hard. I feel depressed without my mother.”
These Georgian children sleep on a bare mattress covered with plastic! Can you imagine such a thing?

Even an adult would struggle to endure such a horrific scene. Now imagine a 10-year-old girl witnessing her mother being buried with her own eyes. Oh God, oh God, how did this little angel’s heart endure such horror?
Salome (13 years old): “When my mom died, I became the only ‘girl’ in the family. I clean the house. I take care of my brother and help him with his homework. My mother taught me to be kind, and now I teach my brother the same. I love meat dishes, but we can’t afford them.”
Look, the mattress is wrapped in a flour sack.
Yes, that awful sack is what these orphaned children sleep on. God, does even a single child deserve to live like this?
Luka (11 years old): “Sleeping on this bed is awful. I even think about sleeping on the floor. Maybe it would be more comfortable. I don’t think about myself – I worry more about my sister. Salome and I dream of a happy, carefree life like other children.”
Little Luka gathered these firewood sticks in the village, near the forest. What else can a poor child do? Their sick father has no money for firewood. That’s why 11-year-old Luka is already taking care of his family, like an adult. God, what a brave boy is growing up in our homeland.
“I will light the stove soon, and my sister won’t be cold anymore”
Luka wakes up early every morning to light the stove and warm the room before his beloved sister wakes up. God, always bless the bond between these children. May they care for each other this way for the rest of their lives.
This poor man is their father. After his wife’s death, has to be both a father and a mother to his children
Vepkhia (the children’s father): “I have had three surgeries. I am still sick, but I can’t afford to see a doctor. What can we do with 400 GEL in social allowance? Should I buy firewood, food, pay utility bills, or buy school clothes and shoes for the children?”
The state provides these little angels with 200 GEL per month as orphans. Now, let’s do some quick calculations. A loaf of bread costs 1 GEL. Each child needs 30 GEL per month for bread. Deduct 30 from 200, and only 170 GEL remain. That’s about 60 dollars. Now think – what can you buy a child for 60 dollars? Food for a month, a winter coat, shoes, or a warm sweater? These poor children don’t even have the “right” to get sick because not a single lari from the 200 they receive is left for medications.
Meanwhile, 2025 began with “great news” – the already high salaries of parliament members have nearly doubled. When will the time come when the state budget becomes “generous” for the needy and orphaned children?
The children wash rags in icy water. They also clean the house together. A house with dark, damp walls
A simple soup is boiling on the stove. The children don’t even remember the last time they ate a meal with meat
This bread will be shared equally between their sick father and the orphans at dinner. The fourth empty plate will also be set for their mother, just like before – when the Melkuashvili family, rich in love for one another, gathered around their meager table.
There is no refrigerator, no TV, no wardrobe in this house. And this house does not even belong to the Melkuashvili family. They live here temporarily. Kind-hearted people, if each of us donated even 1 GEL for these little orphaned angels, who knows –
perhaps we could buy a small house in the village of Iliatsminda (Sighnaghi) for this poor brother and sister. Their mother, their guardian angel, has left this world forever. But maybe we can protect these motherless children. Is there a greater act of grace before God than this?
The poor child has only this torn ball.
Even though he loves football… but…
A wise Georgian shepherd dog senses the sorrow and pain of the children’s souls. Look into its eyes, and you will see for yourself – the eyes of this dog are more human than those of many people. Should it be called an animal, and some people “humans”?
A spark of hope appeared in the tear-filled eyes of the girl, when she learned from the Fund’s reporter that soon, all of Georgia would know her and her brother’s story. Deep in her heart, she may have felt a flicker of hope that kind strangers would bless her and Luka, just as their beloved mother once did. A mother’s blessing is the most powerful force in this world. Even whispered softly, it reaches the heavens.
This girl dances beautifully. Recently, she won first place in a competition. She dedicates all her successes to her late mother
The poor siblings pour their pain and emotions onto paper. But if you look closely, you will notice something—
On every drawing made by these orphans, there is always a sun… sun rays… golden beams sending warmth and light to this unjust world. Kind-hearted people, you can be that ray of sunshine for these orphaned children. You can warm their little hearts, frozen by the loss of their mother. Of course, nothing in this world can replace a mother’s warmth. But even a small donation from you
Can allow these orphaned siblings to live in humane conditions. Open the door of your heart to them, and when you leave this world, the Lord will open the gates of Heaven for you.
If you are willing to visit the family and help them in person, here is their address: Sighnaghi municipality, village Iliatsminda.
