Mariam’s scoliosis is pressing harder and harder on her lungs each day – sometimes completely cutting off her oxygen supply. The pain she endures is unbearable. She can’t sleep, she can’t stand up, she can’t even turn over in bed.
Her ribcage is becoming more deformed with each passing day, and no painkillers can ease her suffering anymore. Her parents are praying on their knees for just one thing: to get her abroad for the surgery that could save her life. But where can a nearly destitute family find such a huge amount of money? If we waste any time, it will be too late.
Lika, mother (37 years old): “I’ve been carrying my daughter in my arms for 18 years, and I will carry her for as long as I live… but I’m running out of strength.
She is 18 now – the best years of a girl’s life. Sometimes dark thoughts creep into my mind, making me wonder if God has forgotten some of us. But I immediately pray, because I know thinking that way is a terrible sin. I believe that in moments like these, God gives us all a chance – to defeat the devil through kindness and compassion!
Mariam was born with microcephaly—her skull developed abnormally, leaving no room for her brain to grow.

Mariam was born with microcephaly—her skull developed abnormally, leaving no room for her brain to grow.
Lika, 37 years old: “My daughter is in excruciating pain, and I can’t do anything to help her… I don’t know how she bears it. She cries nonstop.”
On top of it all, Mariam suffers from severe epilepsy. During seizures, she loses consciousness for up to three minutes. Her body goes rigid, and foam forms at her mouth. It’s terrifying.
She hasn’t slept in a week. She moans in pain all night, unable to turn over. And the exhaustion from sleepless nights only triggers more seizures.
Lika, mother (37 years old):
“I want my daughter to be with me forever. But when I’m gone—who will care for her? Who will feed her? Who will carry her in their arms? No one. Only a mother can make the impossible possible for her child. But one day, my daughter will be all alone in this world, and there won’t be a single person beside her to even offer her a glass of water. That’s why, while I’m still alive, I want to help my poor girl.”
Lika, mother (37 years old): “Mariam’s survival depends on money – cursed money! Her only hope is in the kindness of strangers. I have never asked anyone for help before. But the cost of this surgery is enormous – $25,000. The state is covering half the amount, but where will we find the rest? We’ve already sold our home. We have nothing left. We are willing to do anything to save our daughter – even to beg for help from kind-hearted people. Please, I’m begging you—help save my child!”
Her parents are fighting desperately for her life. But without our help, Mariam has no chance. Scoliosis will win. We cannot let it claim another innocent life.
