"I don't know what's wrong with my daughter. Why she swells up, why pus comes out of her eyes and nose... We have been going to doctors for 2 years, had many tests and surgeries, but nothing helps I look at her and my heart breaks... she's so cheerful, restless... she walks, chatters, laughs, but in a matter of seconds her face can swell up, she writhes in pain and cries.”

"I'll give you my life, Barbare, just don't cry"

On the brink of life and death... breathe, baby, and don't give up

- Tamara, how did this happen?  Was Barbare born with problems?

Tamara: No. The pregnancy and birth giving went well.   Barbare was born a perfectly healthy girl.  We were so happy!  Gabriel, who was one year old at the time, was the happiest of all.  He looked at her and kissed her little hands. They are still like two peas in a pod. When Barbare starts to feel pain, Gabriel holds her hand and says, ' “Give me your pain!  I'm strong, I can bear it.'”

“I can bear the pain, let it hurt me instead of my little sister”

- When did you first notice signs of her illness?

Tamara: Barbare was one year old when she put a small sponge in her nose. I couldn't get it out. We rushed to the clinic, where they also tried to remove it from my baby's nose, but they couldn't. We had to go to the hospital. They seemed to have solved the problem and we forgot about it.  But after that incident, there was not a day of peace. Apparently, they couldn't get everything out, and the small pieces began to decay and rot.  Barbara started having headaches, difficulty breathing... and in 2022, she lost consciousness. We took her to the hospital, where they found some growths in her respiratory tract - it was a cyst, or cancer, or remnants of that sponge that they couldn't fully remove.

When Barbara is not in pain, she plays like all her peers

But when the pain starts, she doesn't even have the strength to cry... she moans like a kitten

- What is the current condition of Barbare?

Tamara: We were recently discharged from an intensive care unit. My Barbare has gone through so many horrible days in the past eighteen months. 12 surgeries. Her hands are all punctured... She gets upset when she sees people in white coats. And what happens to Gabriel when he sees his sister in pain and suffering - he runs to me and whispers: "Why is my sister suffering so much, can I help her? Will she die? They won't leave her in the hospital, will they?" I am ready to die...

"In the hospital, the doctors call her a fighter, a hero! They are surprised how much strength such a little princess has - to fight and not give up!"

- What is her current condition and what do the doctors say?

Tamara: Thank God, with the prayers of kind Georgians and the efforts of doctors, Barbare is still alive. The doctors say her condition is very serious, but doctors in Turkey can help her. Six months ago, we went there - they raised money for us, and I managed to take my child there. They drained pus from her nasal cavity and eye, her condition improved, but we didn't have enough money for further treatment, so we came back.

All the worries became so insignificant... all the anxieties lost their meaning. This is real sorrow, this is real tragedy!

- You probably need lots of medications. How do you manage to cope?

Tamara: Well... Our income is a 300 GEL allowance. We can afford diapers and medication, but not food. My mother helps me a lot. We wouldn't be able to cope without her.

  • Why did you address our Fund?

Tamara: I saw the real support of your Fund, read words of gratitude from hundreds of mothers. You gave them hope, saved their children, and directed them towards the path of recovery. I know you will help my daughter survive. You are my last hope. You can reach people's hearts!
