16-year-old Beka has never taken a single step on his own. He doesn't know what it's like to play football with boys. He can only dream about it. He used to dream about it more often, he even asked his mother to sit him next to the window so that I could see the children who were chasing the ball like crazy. He was sure that soon his legs would be able to support him. Over time, it became more and more painful for Beka to look at the frisky boys ... And now, even from the screams coming from the yard, tears well up in his eyes. He knows he will never be able to play football. But at least walk a few steps on his own - is that possible?

REPOST RIGHT AWAY, MY GOOD MAN! HELP YOUR FRIENDS TO GET CLOSER TO THE WORK OF MERCY!
Sometimes it seems to him that someone is breaking his legs. Sometimes it seems that they saw him in parts or get his skin cut off. It is impossible to sleep from pain, you want to howl and sob ... But he is a man!
 Isn't that a supernatural desire?
“To see how my beloved son takes steps on his own is my only dream!”
Mama Maia can't talk without crying. God alone knows how much suffering she and her son had to endure during these 16 years. But they are not going to give up.
- Maia, could you please tell us about your son’s disease? Is he sick since birth?
Maia: Beka was born a perfectly healthy baby. But when he was 6 months old, running children hit his baby carriage and he fell off it. That's when the whole nightmare began. A calm baby, who always smiled turned into a nervous and crying child. It's like he's been replaced. I immediately realized that something was wrong with my boy. Lord, we have visited so many doctors! Some of them said that the reason was fear, they prescribed massages, various procedures. But nothing helped, the situation worsened, my son could not walk ...
But I didn't give up! The massages gave results, and at the age of two he took his first steps. I thought the disease had passed. He even went to first grade. He walked with difficulty, but he walked on his own. Then he got worse and worse, and there was no money left for massages and treatment.
- What do the doctors say? Is there any chance for him to fully recover?
Maia: As a deeply religious person, I will tell you: there is always a chance. My son and I know for sure that our efforts will definitely be crowned with success. Beka will be able to walk. Maybe with the help of crutches, but he will definitely be able to! My son and I didn't give up. Beka is very cheerful and purposeful. He wants it with all his heart and believes that he will walk! Massages do him good. He could not move, and now he can roll over in bed on his own, can raise his arms, hold his neck.
Tiko (7-year-old): Aunt gives my brother a massage, and I look at her and remember everything. Then, when she leaves, I massage his hands and move his fingers. He started to stroke my hand too - he could not do it before. Come on, I'll show you!
“Let’s stretch that finger now. That's it, well done!"
– What, in your opinion, is the most difficult thing in your situation?
Maia: The hardest thing is that I can no longer lift him. He is quite an adult, tall, I can’t cope physically. And I need to bathe him and do much more things. Beka wants to be independent, he can't come to terms with the fact that he can't even get dressed without my help.
Beka (16-year-old): Do you know what I dream about the most? To have a normal bathroom. Every bathing is hell for me. And I want there to be warm water so that I can sit there, and I would not have to bother my mother.
“It will be hard to bathe in this room not only for a sick child, but even for a healthy adult”
– What advice would you like to give to mothers who find themselves in the same hard situation as you?
Maia: I would like to wish them patience and perseverance, and lots of strength! We must become a support for our children, help them, not let them lose heart. Because if we give up ourselves, what will happen to them? My husband and I also have a lot of sores, because we carry Beka in our arms. He is completely helpless.
Tika: Here I will grow up and I will also carry Beka in my arms. I can't do it right now.
It is very difficult for parents to cope with Beka: he is already an adult and weights a lot
- What is the main problem of your family at the moment?
Maia: Beka needs therapeutic exercises, massage, and physiotherapy for a long time to give him a chance to move independently. All this is very, very expensive. And our only income is a social allowance in the amount of 550 lari and my son's pension - 210 lari. The massage course consists of 30 procedures, 20 GEL per each session. Our neighbors and friends help us a lot. These massages make Beka feel better, he does not have such severe pain. He stopped crying. And the fact that he moved his fingers is the biggest progress!
- If almost all your funds go to massage, how do you manage to survive on the remaining money?
Maia: Well... I don't even know how. My husband used to work part-time, but now his back hurts a lot. And I can’t leave my son alone because he is completely helpless. Well, and I can't cope alone. Thank God we have a roof over our heads. This is the house of my husband's parents, we keep it as clean as we can, but we can't put the bathroom to order. You have no idea how hard it is to bathe Beka in winter. I'm not talking about us.
“He never ate on his own. I have been spoon feeding him since birth.
- Have you ever imagined that something like this could happen to you?
Maia: God forbid! Who can imagine such a thing? Moreover, at first my son did not have any health problems. The first signs started to appear later. We didn't expect it would get so complicated. But what could we do? All is the will of God. So, we are destined to go through this.
- Does anyone help you? Parents or relatives?
Maia: My husband's parents help us. They are pensioners, and if they have anything left from their pension, they give it to our children. Even strangers help us.
– What do you believe in? In what do you see salvation?
Maia: Faith in the Lord keeps me alive. My son and I often pray together. I also believe that strangers can empathize more than officials. Do you know how many times I asked them for a wheelchair for my son? And they keep telling me some excuses and feeding me promises. And Beka needs a wheelchair. He so wants to go outside, see how other children live.
– Maya, please tell us about your son…
Maia: My son is a wonderful boy. I can say this with pride. He is a fighter! He never whines - steadfastly, with his teeth clenched, he goes to his goal. Even during the massage, he listens attentively and remembers everything that the doctor tells him.
Tika: And if he doesn't remember, I'll remember everything. Oh, you know what Beka dreams about? About a laptop! So that he can communicate there and watch different exercises. I know there, in the computer, there are a lot of children like Beka! I saw that!
"I don't want to bother my mom"
– Beka, can you tell us about yourself? What your hobby is?
Beka: I don’t know. What can my hobby be? I love listening to music and watching movies. Oh, I love coloring. I saw on TikTok that children like me draw. I want to learn too! I really need a computer for this! I would also communicate with my friends on the computer.
– Do you have friends?
Beka: Yes, I have. But, if I have a computer, I think that there will be more friends. And, of course, I dream to do everything independently. It hurts me so much to bother my mother.
- You have wonderful plans for the future. Dreams come true - the main thing is to believe! I would like to ask your mother too: Maia, what is your biggest dream? This is probably a rhetorical question, but still?
Maia: I dream of seeing my son take steps on his own! I don’t dream about anything else - all my thoughts are directed only to this. We have been fighting the disease for so long. I can’t even imagine that these efforts may not be crowned with success!
- What do you think is the first thing you need?
Maia: We need a wheelchair like air; we need to renovate the bathroom. We are in dire need of food. Our money is enough for nothing. My son and I follow your Facebook page. You have made so many people happy! Thanks to your Fund, kind people learn about the misfortune of their neighbor and can provide all possible help. I address mothers, women. Any mother will understand me. My son is 16 years old. He really wants to live a normal, full life. Please give him this chance!
