Gulo has already cried her eyes out – she sees nothing and no one. But when someone comes to the nursing home, she asks them to take out three portraits from the shelf case and look at her children and grandson. And says – are they beautiful, are they good? That’s how she buried all three of them, the good and beautiful ones, and laid them in the ground. And she herself lives just to cry. Without eyes, without a home, without documents. Abandoned by the dead and the only living daughter but found by kind people.

“I am abandoned by both the dead and the living children”

REPOST RIGHT AWAY, MY GOOD MAN! HELP YOUR FRIENDS TO GET CLOSER TO THE WORK OF MERCY!

“I am abandoned, belonging to no one.  Without eyes, without a home, without documents”

Grandmother Gulo: I am 77 years old. I can’t do anything myself, my dear.  When they give me food, I eat.  And I sit in one place all day.  I’m very embarrassed, but I even ask someone to take me to the bathroom – I can’t see.  It was also a neighbor who brought me here, she felt sorry for me when I was left on the street, and she cried.

“People here are kind, they take me to the bathroom and bring me to the garden”

– Why did you end up on the street, Grandmother Gulo? Don’t you have any relatives?

Gulo: Because I am abandoned, belonging to no one.  I have one daughter. But she hasn’t asked about me for 10 years. She’s not in Georgia. And I don’t know how to find her.

– She doesn’t even know that you’re here?

Gulo: She doesn’t know that either. I really want to die – I swear to you. It’s better than what happened to me.

– What happened? Tell me please.

Gulo: Well… I don’t have eyes, I’m blind from tears. It’s very hard. I buried three of my people. My son, my Merab, died from a heart attack. He was 37 years old – he died in one minute.

“My son, my Merab, died in one minute…”

My Zuriko, my beloved grandson, what did he do to me! He was so tall, so handsome, my God… He was only 19 years old. How not to go crazy?…  He was Merab’s son. He took his own life, he should have killed me instead, my Zuriko (cries). He jumped from the 9th floor, from his own home. Do you know what they told me? My daughter called me and said, “Something’s wrong with Zuriko, go to them.”  When I got there, Zuriko was already dead, you know? And there was sorrow in the house, my daughter-in-law was crying, she was already acting strange, out of her mind. The parking attendants told me they heard a sound like an explosion. Boom! They turned around, and saw a young man lying on the ground… My Zuriko was lying on the ground… I wanted to jump too. Both for Merab and Zuriko.  I should have…

“My wonderful, beloved Zauriko was lying lifeless on the ground…”

You know how much I loved my grandson? I was afraid that hooligans or drug addicts would corrupt him. I even got him a job where I worked at the Eliava market. He had a good salary, everything was fine. But on that day, he had an argument with his mother and grandmother because they sold his father’s car, and after that, he jumped. Just like that, my dear.

“I should have killed myself too!  Jumped out of the window when my son and grandson died…”

– It hurts so much, Grandma Gulo… Can I give you a hug?

Gulo: Well, go ahead, hmm (sighs heavily).

– And your daughter, Grandma?  What happened to her?

Gulo: She lived in Moscow – I wasn’t with her.  No one told her to take care of herself.  She worked in the cold. They found a lipoma on her breast. But it was cancer, not a lipoma. She was only 48, still young… That’s how I lost my sight because of my children…

“In my eyes, there is darkness. No eyes, they have blinded from tears”

– Grandma Gulo, how did you find yourself without a home, on the streets?

Gulo: I had debts in the bank. I took money to bury my son, grandson, and make graves in the cemetery. But I couldn’t repay it, and I lost my apartment. It’s good that Inga saved me (Inga is the director of the nursing home, Ed.).  They feed me three times a day, bathe me, and take me to the toilet.  People here are very kind.

“I can’t do anything myself, just eat when food is given to me”

– Have you ever thought that your older years could end up like that?

Gulo: Never in my whole life! I was happy, full of life, had a good family, a good husband, and three children.  I loved working Even though I wasn’t a minister, but a simple cleaner, I am very satisfied with that. And if they were to say, “Start all over again, Gulo,” I would gladly go back to work as a cleaner.

“I had a good family, a good husband, and I was happy”

And with this profession, I supported my family when my husband passed away.  He hadn’t even received his pension when he died from a heart attack. I was agile both in my youth and later, as long as I could see. I worked in four different places – cleaning streets, staircases, just to feed my children… That’s it… There was no electricity or gas in the city back then.  It was hard.

“As long as I could see, I was agile, but now I can barely walk with the help of a wall”

– Do you have friends or companions here?

Gulo: I get along well with everyone. No one will tell you that Gulo had a fight with someone, ask anyone. I’ve been here for 8 months. I don’t go to anyone with my problems either.  If they ask, I tell them.  Everyone here has their own sadness, their own “dardi,” you know? (dardi – sorrow, sadness in Georgian) When someone new comes or when guests come and learn about my story, they say,  “Oh, poor you, unfortunate woman!”

“Everyone here has their own sadness, their own “dardi,” you know?”

– What do you need, Grandma Gulo? How can the Fund help you?

Gulo: I have nothing of my own. Look at what I’m sitting in this heat, wearing such warm slippers… I want a new bed and a bedside table. Please help me. I don’t even have a pension. I am blind and I have lost my documents, I don’t remember where I put them.  And now they won’t give me my pension.  But a person needs money to go to the doctor, to buy medication.  I am a human being too.  I have many things that bother me: my heart hurts, my stomach, I can’t breathe because there’s no air, and my blood pressure is high.  I really want to eat a cucumber, but I can’t because I don’t have any teeth left… I want my pension to be given back to me, it would make me happy.

“Look what warm slippers I wear in such heat”

– Grandma Gulo, if you could talk to your daughter right now, what would you say to her?  Are you angry with her?

Gulo: How can I not be angry?  I don’t know anything about her, she doesn’t need me (holds back tears).  Thank God I have Inga, and she needs me. I don’t want to interfere with my daughter, I don’t want to impose my problems on her. She probably has her own problems in her family, her health is not good.  It’s better for me to be alone than to bother her, ask for something, and interfere. It’s better for me to cry for myself. I don’t really want to live.  Maybe it will all end soon.

– Grandma Gulo, we will definitely do everything to bring joy to your heart.  You won’t be alone. Many people will read your story and want to help. What advice would you like to give to young people?

Gulo: Work, study, live with a clear conscience. Don’t drink, don’t associate with bad people. Be faithful in love.  And don’t hurt your parents…

Let’s warm the lonely heart of Grandma Gulo! Let’s give her warmth and joy, show her care. It is important to restore her documents, purchase clothing, help her get dentures, and improve her living space in the nursing home by providing a new bed and bedside table. Any assistance you provide will be an expression of love that she greatly needs.

You can personally visit Grandma Gulo at the nursing home. The address is: Tbilisi, Vasil Kakabadze Street, 23.

Every time you can help someone, just do it, and rejoice that God answers someone’s prayers through you!
