“Since childhood, I dreamed of becoming a soldier. I wanted so much to defend my homeland. And now I know that I will be confined to this bed for the rest of my life,” little Georgiy said these words with deep sorrow, as if pouring his heart to me. And I immediately lost all the words of support I had prepared to say to the boy. 14-year-old Giorgi has Duchenne muscular dystrophy (progressive). The child cannot move around even with the help of a wheelchair. The muscles of all his organs are exhausted. This disease has not reached only the heart muscle. “What will happen then?” The child will die,” was the reply of Nana, Giorgi’s mother, and she wept bitterly. – I even feed him lying down… If I had a special bed, he would at least eat sitting down.”

0901200270“I will die like this because I will never be able to even move! I even eat lying down.“Since childhood, I dreamed of becoming a soldier. I wanted so much to defend my homeland. And now I know that I will be confined to this bed for the rest of my life,” little Georgiy said these words with deep sorrow, as if pouring his heart to me. And I immediately lost all the words of support I had prepared to say to the boy.
“My whole back hurts. I can’t feel my arms and legs. I can’t even turn over in bed.
“I will lie like this for the rest of my life. I will never be able to stand up.”
“What will happen if it comes to that?” I asked, tears in my eyes, to the devastated mother.
“If we had a bed with a remote control, my son could sit during meals and wouldn’t suffer so much” “What will happen then?” The child will die,” was the reply of Nana, Giorgi’s mother, and she wept bitterly. – I even feed him lying down… If I had a special bed, he would at least eat sitting down.”Giorgi (14-year-old): Please tell me why I am suffering so much. I only went to school in the first grade, and that was only for a few months. My school friends don’t even remember me. Even though I know from French doctors that I will never walk, I still read school books. My cousin Mari helps me study. I have a 3-year-old sister and a 3-month-old brother. I pray for them every morning. I only ask God for health for them.
“I dreamed of having a baby sister and a baby brother and taking care of them. Unfortunately, I will never be able to protect them! What kind of soldier am I now?!”– What a smart and kind boy you are. You amaze me. What do you ask the Lord for yourself?Giorgi: Nothing for myself. I know that nothing will help me anymore. Why bother God for nothing? I know that it hurts Him too to see me like this. I feel that God also feels my pain. The only thing that will ease this condition and make me feel much better is a special bed with a remote control. Only this bed will help me to sit while eating. But my family doesn’t have the money to buy it, we don’t even have the home of our own! We are about to be kicked out on the street! A massage mattress will also ease my condition. That’s what the doctors said. If I had this mattress, my back wouldn’t hurt anymore. But we don’t have the money to buy such a mattress either. I’m even embarrassed to ask people for help. How could I imagine that my dream of becoming a soldier would be replaced by a dream of a massage mattress? I dream of one more thing. I want to have a cell phone. It will connect me to the world and be my only entertainment! Sometimes when my relatives come to visit us I ask them for a phone. But soon they leave and I’m alone again, staring at the ceiling all day! – Giorgi, you’re a wise boy beyond your years. It’s a pleasure to meet you. I’d like to ask you something. Will you answer me honestly?Giorgi: Yes. If I don’t want to talk about it, I’ll just ask you to change the subject, but I won’t lie.– What a wonderful boy you are! Even an adult couldn’t come up with such an answer. Well then, I’ll ask you directly: your mother mentioned to me that you know your condition worsened due to incorrect treatment prescribed by doctors. Now tell me, when you’re alone with yourself, do you ever get angry at those doctors?Giorgi: I promised not to lie. I’m not angry at those doctors. On the contrary, I feel sorry for them. Do you know why? They realized they treated me incorrectly, and that’s why they’re upset. So, I feel sorry for them. But I feel even more sorry for my mom. I often see how she quietly cries but turns away, so I don’t see her tears. But I feel everything! Help not me, but at least her! She suffers so much because of this expensive bed and special mattress, and because we’ll be evicted from our apartment! I don’t care where I lie! But my mom… And my little brother and sister… They need a roof over their heads! Don’t worry about me… I’ll cope with all the troubles!Correspondent Nino: I’ve met such a heroic boy in my life! I’m happy to have shared this encounter with you! I’ll never forget Giorgi! And you do not forget either, friends of the Fund! Of course, we’ll help this family! I have no doubt! And I thank God for giving me this opportunity!Indeed, Giorgi said to me the most important phrase when we met. I gave him my word, and I’ll keep my promise.
The owner is selling this apartment in 8 months. A child confined to a bed and two other young children could end up without a roof over their heads. Nana (Giorgi’s mother): I was 24 years old, enjoying motherhood. I had a smart, cheerful, and energetic son. My first child, my little sweetheart. One day, the sky fell on my head and took away my happy motherhood. A young, happy mother suddenly turned into the most miserable one. The hell began for me like this: Giorgi was 6 years old when I noticed it was hard for him walking up the stairs. Gradually, it became increasingly difficult for him to move. We first took him to the Kutaisi hospital, then to Tbilisi, where the doctors told us he needed surgery on his “poisonous” tonsils. I, of course, trusted the doctors and agreed. It was then that I pronounced a death sentence on my son. After the surgery, his condition worsened to the point where he couldn’t move independently anymore. I watched as I lost my son and couldn’t help him. We sold everything we had and took the child to France, to the city of Strasbourg. It was there that an accurate diagnosis was made: Duchenne muscular dystrophy, which, unfortunately, is incurable. When the doctors told me that nothing had been invented in global healthcare that could cure the child of this disease, I would have preferred to die on the spot than to hear those words. But you know what was the biggest shock for me? When the doctors at the Strasbourg clinic told me that the child’s condition had worsened due to incorrect treatment in Georgia. Upon hearing these words, I wanted to cry out in pain. My whole body was burning, but what could I do? What could the unfortunate mother change? I couldn’t turn back time. From France, we were sent back to Georgia because it made no sense to stay there any longer. If the doctors hadn’t made a mistake in the treatment process, my son could at least move around in a wheelchair today, rather than lying in bed like this. He could simply stand on his feet, and we could take him to the bathroom. And now even that’s impossible. He can’t even lift his body slightly in bed when we feed him. For so many years, the child has been eating lying down! Because of this, oxygen doesn’t reach the heart, spasms occur in the stomach, the temperature drops to 34 degrees, and then he loses consciousness. As an unfortunate mother, I witness my son’s indescribable suffering every day. And you know what’s the hardest thing? When a mother can’t even slightly alleviate her child’s suffering. God, where are you in times like these? Lord, please don’t think I’m blaming you, but show me the way, what should do a mother who feels neither alive nor dead?
“My son is dying a slow death every day. And his unfortunate mother can’t help him in any way!”– Is there any way out? What can even slightly ease Giorgi’s condition? What can the Chernovetskyi Fund do for the child? Nana: I know that with the help of the Fund, thousands of children have been saved from death. Thousands of women have avoided the fate of burying their child. To thousands of elderly people and single mothers, you have given the strength to continue living. And I ask only for one thing – to convey my cry to people, the cry of an unfortunate mother, so that maybe someone can help us with a special bed with a remote control and a massage mattress. So that those who no longer need them don’t throw them away. If my son has such a bed, then he won’t have heart and stomach problems, at least not at a life-threatening level. And now the risk of losing my son grows every day. Therefore, it is vital for the child to have a bed with a remote control and a mattress with a massager, which costs around 2000 lari. And for the bed with a remote control, we need 4000 lari. My income is only 340 lari, which is my son’s disability pension as a first-degree invalid. This amount barely covers medications and food. Therefore, please, those of you who no longer need such a bed and mattress, I beg you, do not hesitate to provide it for my suffering child.
“Please, kind people, maybe you already have a bed with a remote control that you no longer need?” – The apartment you are currently staying in has been temporarily provided to you by one person. You must vacate the apartment in 8 months. Where are you planning to take the child? In addition to Giorgi, you have a three-year-old and a three-month-old child.Nana: We will be left out in the open. I cannot say anything to the person who provided us with this apartment except thank you. But you’re right, he is selling the apartment in 8 months. It’s being sold for 8000 dollars. Perhaps a miracle will happen, and I will be able to buy this apartment. I will be left on the street with a child bound to the bed. Even the thought of it sends chills down my spine. God, if only a miracle would happen! If my children perish due to lack of funds, I will never forgive myself and will die too. Because mothers’ hearts live with their children. If the child dies, then the mother dies too…
Friends, let’s work a miracle, and then with our help, a happy day will come for little Giorgi, who has been deprived by fate! Please don’t forget to repost our story. Let your friends know about it! Giorgi: “My spirits now rely not on illness, but on the kindness of others. Many reach out to me, offering distractions and lifting my spirits.”
“We had only four months to urgently resolve our housing situation, and each day I was consumed by the thought: where will I go with my sick, bedridden child?” – says Nana, the mother of Giorgi, who is now known throughout Georgia. “We were facing the prospect of wandering and enduring hardship once more. Then, something extraordinary happened: thousands of people united to buy us a home!”
“It’s all ours now, this house, this yard! We can live peacefully, not to be afraid, not to be nervous. My whole family breathed a sigh of relief. People call my Gio every day – his peers and adults. The Chernovetskyi Fund gave us not only a roof over our heads. The most important thing that the Fund has given us is powerful human support. With such power we are not afraid of anything.
This nice house with a spacious yard was given to Gio and his family by friends of the Chernovetskyi Fund.
Nana: What golden-hearted people call us! They say, “Nana, today I was in church and lit a candle for Gio’s health” or “How can I bring joy to your Gio?” It’s not even about the big money, which was enough to buy a whole house with a plot of land! It’s about attitude. I have hope in these golden people! They are my solace, my support, my strength in the tough battle with my son’s illness. The diagnosis is relentless – “Duchenne muscular dystrophy.” And it’s very important and precious for me to know that behind my back there’s a huge army of Gio’s friends and supporters.
– Gio, how are you feeling now? How are you?
Gio (14-year-old): It used to be sad, bad all the time, but now I am joyful and cheerful quite often. The illness hasn’t gone away; I’ve just gotten used to it. I’ve gotten used to my temperature dropping to 33 degrees, and I black out. And I’ve gotten used to the back pain. I might feel unwell, but my mood is good because so many people write to me, call me, distract me, and cheer me up. I was most excited about the house when Uncle David, your colleague, told us the news. Mom and my sister came to hug me. I couldn’t even fall asleep from joy; I just kept thinking about it. Thank you so much from me and my family!
Giorgi‘s sister is going to show us the house up close. Let’s go inside
Our Giorgi, our boy, now has a bed with a remote control, it allows him to raise his head and legs
Nia: “Gio has a bed on wheels and with a remote, and we have beds on legs.”
All the rooms – kitchen, bedroom, living room – are renovated and furnished
Gio: We’ve changed many houses; we used to be registered in Nosiri. I’m pleased that this was done specifically for my family. And it’s nice that they sent two beds specifically for me. I’ll be lying down all the time, that can’t be changed. But now I have a new bed with a remote control, and I can raise my head or my legs if they get tired. I raise them as much as I want.
Nana: And they visit my Gio at home. Aleko Imerlishvili and his wife Ia came to us from Tbilisi, gave Gio a TV and a PlayStation game console. They collected money for gifts with a group of friends. Every act for the sake of my son brings tears to my eyes and an extraordinary rush of tenderness to these precious people! There are so many of them! Thank you, Lord! Aleko and his wife made a long journey to us, and then spent several hours playing various games with Gio. What a huge incentive for my son!
I remembered “the two Gios.” One is married, the other is single. That’s how I remembered it for myself. They gave him this gift – an iPhone 14. They splurged, spent a lot… Food, toys… My son desperately needed communication; he was suffering a lot. And now he has an unimaginable amount of it, including through his phone.
I’m touched by how much people wanted to cheer up my son, protect him, and spoil him. They found out what he loves, what would bring him joy. Several times we had deliveries of shawarma brought to us! (Laughs).
– Gio, can you eat this kind of food? Actually, it’s amazing that all your wishes were fulfilled.
Gio: Actually, I can’t. But there are so few pleasures in my life that I convinced my mom. I can’t even go outside. Thank you for making me to find joy and smile even in such a situation.
Famous people hosted live streams on TikTok for me. Have you heard of Gennady Kvikvinia? He’s known in Georgia and around the world, he’s a star in arm wrestling. Uncle Gennady communicates with me all the time, and I’m proud of it. He saw the story about me by the Chernovetskyi Fund and made a live stream on his TikTok with me. So people could help me.
Huchucha – very famous on TikTok and beyond – also did a live stream with me. People called and talked to me until four in the morning. It was a happy night!
Gio: Send my Easter greetings to all my friends and tell them that they made me happy. May luck always be with them.
Nana: This comprehensive assistance from the Chernovetskyi Fund’s friends amazed me! They helped my son with medications, sent food, a tablet, and beds. But the culmination was the purchase of a house! Shock and great joy that such power stands behind us! No one compares to the citizens of my country in their desire to unite and do good, even though everyone is facing difficulties and has problems. You are all in my heart!
In the yard, there are fruit trees, flowers, lots of greenery, and clean, fragrant air.
Little Nia is very happy that this flowery yard is her own. She likes everything here very much.
Nana: By the way, the district administration offered me beds when they already knew for sure that we had received them from the Chernovetskyi Fund. I said: “No. thank you, we already got them from the Chernovetskyi Fund”. “Funds have more resources,” they said. How do you like that?
And I really enjoy looking out the window…
