Instead of bringing the joyful news of her son’s birth to the young mother Eliso, they said: ‘Oh, mother, how unlucky you are! You gave birth to a sick boy. Leave him. Turn him over to the research institute. He will only bring you suffering. He won’t live anyway…’ It was from these words that the beautiful and carefree life of the woman began to crumble. And for 25 years now, her soul has been consumed by pain and endless sorrow. Eliso: ‘Leave him here, in the research institute,’ they advised, hoping to use my little son for their experiments. But I couldn’t allow my son to be turned into a guinea pig. Since then, I’ve sold the house, taken on debt, and gone everywhere with the child in search of a cure! I refused to listen to those doctors who said that Giorgi was hopeless. But when the doctors had exhausted all our resources, they told us that cerebral palsy was incurable! It was from these words that the beautiful and carefree life of the woman began to crumble. And for 25 years now, her soul has been consumed by pain and endless sorrow.
Tears never dry in her eyes.
That was the doctors’ verdict! Now he is 25, and he has not uttered a single word. He can’t even say where it hurts!
My poor child! There are two of us: with no money and no hope in the whole world!
– What worries you the most when you think about Giorgi’s future?
Eliso: I’m terrified of the thought that he will be left alone when I’m gone. Who will take care of him? Who will love him like I do? I am afraid that he simply won’t survive without me. This fear haunts me every minute. I can’t leave him even for a second!
‘My only hope and support, my eldest son, who devoted himself entirely to his brother, died 9 months ago. I look at his photo and can’t believe it. I can’t even go to his grave; I can’t leave Giorgi.’
– Do you have anyone else besides your son?
Eliso: No one at all! Everyone died. My husband died 5 years ago. His heart just couldn’t take it. And recently, my second son also left this world! He was my only support!
‘Giorgi has not been outside for many years. I can’t take him anywhere. There’s not even a balcony to let him breathe fresh air.’
‘I barely manage to transfer him to a wheelchair. He is big, and I am already old.’
– What helps you hang in there and keep fighting?
Eliso: The only thing that keeps me going is Giorgi. His eyes, his smile, his touch. He needs me and I can’t leave him alone in this cruel world. Every day of his life is my struggle. I don’t have enough money for diapers, so I keep him in cloth. Which means I have to wash him five times a day. I drag him from the bed to a chair, wash him, change his underwear, wrap him in cloth and put him down. I don’t know how I do it. He’s big, he weighs a lot. I think God sends me strength and his angels to help me.
“The meaning of my life is Giorgi. As long as he lives, I will live.”
“As long as I can nurse, as long as he’s alive and I’m alive, I have no right to be dissatisfied with anything.”
Eliso: I can’t understand why our lives have turned out so cruelly. I lived right, always helped everyone, never needed anything. I couldn’t even imagine that such pain could exist in the world! Just recently I realized that God works in mysterious ways, and we must be kind to each other!
– Are there any household things that can make your life easier?
Eliso: Look. Our income is only pension. lunch from the social canteen saves us from starving to death. But there is no money for medications and diapers. Every month I also have to pay 150 dollars for the loan I took for my son’s treatment. That’s why my poor Levan went to Germany. So, I don’t have enough money for anything. All the plumbing is broken, and there’s no one to fix it. I bathe my son in a basin. We don’t have a heater, so we freeze in winter. We need food, medications, and diapers. That’s all.
If you are willing to visit this family and help them in person, here is their address: Tbilisi, Gabriel Salosi Ave, block 117, second floor.
Eliso dreamed of dying to end this endless torment, but she couldn’t leave her son alone. What will happen to Giorgi if she’s not there? How many days will he survive without her? This question deprives her of sleep every night.
Eliso knows she must find a way to secure Giorgi’s future. She wrote letters to charitable foundations, sought help from old friends, and even from strangers. She did everything possible to provide him with warmth and food. And now she has found our Fund, which means she will be able to find you – the kindest and most reliable people of the Lord!
Eliso suffers from loneliness and lack of support, and her sense of helplessness is intensified by financial difficulties. She is afraid of the future, unsure whether her son will be able to survive without her. This constant anxiety and fear for Giorgi’s future eats away at her soul, but her love for her son helps her to overcome all difficulties.
Every time you can help someone, just do it, and rejoice that God answers someone’s prayers through you!
We are sure that all together we will manage to save this family from imminent death.
