Mom Madonna has been disabled since childhood: “If I die, who will take care of my children? They have no one but me!”

calendar June 8, 2024

In the beautiful Georgian eyes of 7-year-old Giorgi lies all the pain of our land! He is very hungry! And between him and his older brother Lasha, they only have a small piece of bread for the whole day! Giorgi is very afraid that Lasha might take it all for himself! This is how they live in this wreck of a place that can’t even be called a shed. It doesn’t even have a window. Light enters the room only through the door. The gaps in the ceiling and walls are so large that it wouldn’t even be safe to keep chicks in there! Here live, if it can be called living, two perpetually hungry children—7-year-old Giorgi and his older brother, 10-year-old Lasha—along with their nearly blind and severely ill mother, Madonna, who has been disabled since childhood.

REPOST RIGHT AWAY, MY GOOD MAN! HELP YOUR FRIENDS FIND THE WAY TO GOD!

In this house, which resembles more a swallow’s nest, live the most unfortunate people: mom Madonna and her two sons, 7-year-old Giorgi and 10-year-old Lasha. It is hard to say who suffers more, as their sorrow knows no bounds.  Her husband died 7 years ago when Madonna was pregnant. There was no place for her in her husband’s family—they simply drove her away and told her to forget the way to their home.

Madonna: It has been 7 years, but the nightmare I experienced after my husband’s death still haunts me. When Giorgi was born, my husband’s parents even threatened me with a knife, demanding I leave their home with my children. I thought the grandson might soften their hearts, but after my son was born, the situation became even more dangerous, and I had to flee with my children.

“Sometimes I just sit here and can’t even get up from the pain, my bones ache all over…”

– Where did you go with a newborn?

Madonna: I couldn’t go to my mother. She lives with my brother, and it’s very cramped there. There was no place for me either. I lived in a shelter for five years. Those were hard years, but at least we had a roof over our heads. Everyone there was just as unfortunate, and that somehow helped me cope. But eventually, we had to leave that refuge as well…

– And where did you go?

Madonna: I went to my father’s house. I had nowhere else to go. My father left me when I was nine months old. He has another family, and when I showed up there with my children, to put it mildly, I was not welcome. I won’t tell you what they cursed us with. I still have to live with them.

“I never had a whole toy. This is my only friend – a bicycle.”

– We won’t delve into your family affairs. You probably have a lot of problems besides that.

Madonna: You’re right. I have health issues. I am a first group disabled person. I have poor vision, lymphedema, lupus… I don’t even remember when I was diagnosed. Many years ago, I started noticing that my legs were constantly swelling and hurting. At first, I thought it was just tiredness. My legs swell so much that I can barely walk. The pain is unbearable at times, and sometimes it’s hard for me even to get up from a chair. I just sit and wait for the pain to subside. Sometimes I just pour cold water on my legs. I can’t afford any other treatment.

– How do you manage these conditions without medical help?

Madonna: Unfortunately, I don’t have the financial means to see a doctor. I don’t even have enough money to get to the clinic, let alone pay for visits and medications. I try not to think about myself, but I worry about my children. Since their father died, Lasha has had behavioral problems and psychological issues. He needs to see a doctor, but we can’t afford it. We only receive an orphan’s pension. What can that cover?

“We only have one ball between us, it’s broken, but we fight even over it.”

Lasha (10 years old): We can’t afford a bike, a scooter, or even a ball.

Giorgi (7 years old): Forget a scooter, sometimes we don’t even have enough for bread. And we always fight because of that. If I find a piece of bread, Lasha takes it and fights. If I play with the ball, Lasha takes it. He even bites me sometimes!

“And here is where our teddy bear is hiding. If Lasha finds him… Oh dear… teddy might lose a leg.”

Lasha: Don’t believe him! He’s making it all up! So he gets everything, and I get nothing again.

– How many things do you need to stop fighting and live peacefully?

Lasha: Well… one bicycle definitely won’t be enough. We need two. And we can’t share just one ball either.

Giorgi: And I dream of a toy with wheels. A remote-controlled car. And lots of food! So much food that it would reach from here to the fence! We definitely wouldn’t fight then!

“If he doesn’t eat on time, Lasha might even take the bread…”

Madonna: I feel so embarrassed. The kids only talk about food. I always tell them not to fight over a piece of bread. But hunger is our daily problem, and I can even understand them. They are surviving as best they can. Every day is a struggle for us. We live on the edge of survival. I try not to show the children my tears and stay strong for them.

– What is the biggest problem for you right now?

Madonna: The biggest problem is the lack of medical care. My vision is deteriorating, and I can’t work or take care of the children as I should. I’m afraid I’ll soon lose my sight completely. Lasha has difficulty in school. He can’t sit still and doesn’t understand the program. A special teacher helps him, but it’s not enough. Kids get upset over everything. I explain to them that people live differently: some have everything, and some have nothing.

“Here is our bathroom… But you have to be very careful in there.”

Lasha: What I dislike most is that our home is so dirty and cold. And that we don’t have our own beds. We don’t even have a window.

– How do you imagine the perfect home?

Giorgi: The perfect home is a warm place with windows, where everyone has their own bed and where we can live without fighting.

Lasha: Our house is scary and cold. I’m afraid to sleep because sand falls from the ceiling. And there are strange noises coming from under the floor.

– Madonna, from what I understand from your story, you urgently need help.

Madonna: I am a simple woman, beaten by life. I don’t know how to ask for help. I don’t even know what to ask for. I just want to live with my children and be happy. If you could help us to make at least one window and fix the ceiling, I would be extremely happy.

“We also don’t have water or gas at home. Could you install them? Then we would live like normal people.”

“My mom taught me to pray. I prayed and prayed – and then suddenly you came. Did God send you?”

Giorgi: Wow! Imagine having water at home and not having to bring it…

Lasha: And if we have gas, it will be warm! I can’t believe it!

– Agree, it’s like a dungeon when there are no windows. I can only imagine what it was like here in winter. I think you also need to undergo a medical examination.

Madonna: I don’t need it! I’m asking for my son. I’ll manage somehow. If you could also give us a washing machine and beds, I would be so happy! Look at what we sleep on. Everything beneath us is rotting and falling apart.

REPOST RIGHT AWAY, MY GOOD MAN! HELP YOUR FRIENDS FIND THE WAY TO GOD!

This family desperately needs help. Their house is falling apart, and Madonna’s health deteriorates every day. The children are growing up in conditions that could break even an adult. Each of us can contribute to improving their lives.

“Whoever is kind to the poor lends to the Lord, and he will reward them for what they have done” (Proverbs 19:17). Your compassion and help can be a light at the end of the tunnel for this family. Please, do not remain indifferent.

We cannot stand by while children starve and freeze in their own home. We cannot turn a blind eye to the struggles of a woman who fights for the lives of her sons despite her own suffering. It is time to act. Your kindness and support can save them from despair.

Extend a helping hand. Together, we can change their life. Let their home become a place of joy and warmth, not fear and pain. Every donation, every bit of help, is a step toward a brighter future for Madonna, Giorgi, and Lasha.

If you are willing to visit the family and help them in person, here is their address: Mtskheta Municipality, village Zemo Nichbisi.

Every time you can help someone, just do it, and rejoice that God answers someone’s prayers through you!

We are sure that all together we will manage to save this family from imminent death.
