One fateful day, the peaceful village of Babi in the Kharagauli municipality was engulfed by the terrifying roar of fire. The house where eight children lived was completely consumed by flames. Thank God, all the children made it out unharmed, but imagine how painful it must be to see your beloved home, your cherished belongings, books, and toys burned to ashes. The family lived in poverty and didn’t own a single valuable item, but our love for things doesn’t come from their price. Sometimes expensive things mean nothing to us. Sometimes a cheap item is far more precious. Friends of the Fund, winter is coming soon to the mountain village, and these little angels will have to bathe outside in the freezing cold. Then, after catching colds, they’ll lie down on sheets spread out on the floor, because they don’t have beds. Cold wind will blow in through the broken window onto the sick children. There’s no pharmacy in the village. Somehow, these children survived last winter. But they won’t make it through another…

REPOST RIGHT AWAY, MY GOOD MAN! HELP YOUR FRIENDS FIND THE WAY TO GOD!
The eyes of these children say it all. Oh God, how dull the eyes of these little angels have become!

The grave of 6-month-old Barbare
The family hadn’t even fully recovered from the disaster caused by the fire when tragedy struck the Skhiladze family again. What came before the tragedy was pure joy. Barbara, their ninth child, was like an angel who came down from heaven. Sadly, she was born with a heart defect. She was hooked up to a machine. The poor child’s delicate heart couldn’t take it, and after six months, their little girl returned to heaven.
In this photo, little Barbare is fighting for her life.
Here, 4-year-old Lazare strokes the photograph of his deceased sister.

Look at where these children live. Can this be called a home?
They have no beds—the children sleep on the floor.
Oh God, it’s unbelievable! Look at where the children sleep. They don’t have beds; they sleep on sheets spread out on the floor. Does any child in the world deserve to have an unfulfilled dream of simply sleeping in a bed?
There isn’t a single small dresser in the house. That’s why everything is lying on the floor.
The walls are cracked. Look at how big that crack is. The house is falling apart.
The windows are broken, and they’re using a curtain instead of glass.
Do these little angels deserve to live in a room like this? These are our Georgian children! You can’t even call this a room. Centuries-old wooden windows, eaten away by worms, with curtains in place of glass. Will this thin curtain protect them from the winter cold? Especially in a highland village like Babi, in the Kharagauli municipality. You all know how harsh the winters are there.
The bathroom is made from plastic tarpaulin sheets.
Do you see those blue sheets in the photo? That’s the Skhiladze family’s bath. No, you’re not imagining things. This ‘bathroom’ made of plastic sheeting has no roof and no door. What a terrible idea! Dear reader, do you know what it’s like to bathe here in the freezing winter? The Skhiladzes know it well. But what can the poor father of the family do? He works tirelessly to make life a little easier for his children. He grew up in an orphanage and never knew the warmth of a parent. That heartbroken boy eventually became a father of many and has done everything in his power to support his children with every tetri earned through his hard work.
The children herd cows and goats in the mountains near the village of Babi.
Four-year-old Lazare also helps his brothers and sisters herd the goats.
These children go out to herd cows and goats.
Ten-year-old Saba tries to grow vegetables in the garden.
The lovely 12-year-old Mariam herds goats. What a beauty! Only in Georgia, and perhaps in remote parts of Africa, can you still find such beautiful girls living in such terrible conditions!
Now I will introduce this wonderful girl to you. Mariam is a daughter of the Kharagauli mountains, and she’s as beautiful as the flowers scattered across the mountain slopes. She’s only 12, but she herds goats on slopes so steep that even adults would struggle. Mariam wears old clothes and shoes. She dreams of having beautiful dresses, but her family is poor, and the dresses she dreams of only exist in her imagination.
In both winter and summer, she washes dishes in freezing water.
Look at how much sadness a child’s eyes can hold. But she’s only 12. She could be a Hollywood star. But there is no Hollywood in Georgia! All we have are our kind hearts.
Dear readers, it’s enough to meet Mariam just once, and from that moment on, you’ll feel so much warmth flood into your heart. People as sincere, warm, and kind as her are, sadly, a rare sight today. But I must share some sad news: Mariam has speech difficulties.
She hugged the Fund’s correspondent tightly and didn’t want to leave her. This girl is hoping that her family’s story will reach all of Georgia!
The hardworking Skhiladze children
The children are gathering firewood for winter.
The Skhiladze brothers are herding cattle in the mountains.
Nineteen-year-old Vakhtang. The eyes are the window to the soul. The soul of this young man must be crying… Perhaps one of you, dear friends, has a job for this hardworking young man? To lift him out of poverty would be a great blessing from God!
Four-year-old Lazare and six-year-old Nika
To have bread every day, the family needs four bags of flour each month.
Why should there be such sadness in four-year-old Lazare’s eyes?
Dear friends, you’re probably wondering about the children’s parents. Their mother has vision problems. Since the death of her daughter, her heart feels dead. The children’s father is an extremely honest and hardworking man. The mountain village of Babi is nearly deserted. A once thriving village is now almost empty. Abandoned houses stand, soaked with rain, as if even the walls are crying from sorrow. This once beautiful village is slowly emptying out, as its residents move to the cities. Some have gone abroad. But in the Skhiladze family, true Georgian blood runs strong, and despite the hardships, the children’s father refuses to leave the village. He even tends to the neglected graves. He sings in the village’s ancient church. And since there is no longer a priest or congregation, he rings the church bells himself to praise the Lord.
Have you heard the old saying? ‘Demons take over an abandoned church.’ But it’s not the church’s fault, nor the devil’s. The only one to blame is the one who abandoned the house of the Lord. The Skhiladze family goes to the ancient village church every day to praise the Lord.
In the ancient village church, left without a priest, the father of the Skhiladze family rings the bells himself. Praise the Lord!
Kind people, you probably already understand why these children are so exceptionally kind and devoted to God. They are raised by honest and God-fearing parents. It’s an act of heroism to raise eight children in this small country, never once asking for help, even when the family was in desperate need.
Friends of the Fund, winter is coming soon to the mountain village, and these little angels will have to bathe outside in the freezing cold. Kind people, winter is not far off. We need to hurry. Otherwise, when heavy snow falls and the roads are blocked, it will be too late… And we won’t be able to forgive ourselves, sitting by a warm fire and sleeping in cozy beds, knowing that not far from us, little angels are freezing in the cold.
If you are willing to visit the family and help them in person, here is their address: Kharagauli Municipality, village Babi.
