Just imagine what young, beautiful Ketevan must feel, being confined to a wheelchair at just 26 years old! One unfortunate day, she couldn’t take a single step—her legs just stopped responding. Her condition gets worse every day, but the family can’t afford the medical tests she needs. And without the correct diagnosis, there can be no treatment. To find out what’s tormenting Ketevan, she urgently needs an MRI of her brain and spine. For a family living in a village, with two small children—one of them seriously ill—this is an impossible expense.

Lika (11 years old): “My little sister has cerebral palsy. She can’t do anything on her own—she can’t walk, can’t talk, she just keeps crying all the time. Now her medicine has run out, and my parents can’t afford to buy more. Do you know why? Because my dad doesn’t work—he has stomach problems and nosebleeds several times a day. He needs to see a doctor himself, but he won’t go because he’s so worried about my sister. He doesn’t think about himself at all.”
Lika: “Do you want to know how we buy medicine and food? We take them on credit. Most of the time, we have nothing to eat, and we go hungry. My stomach hurts, but I endure it. But how can you explain to a sick little girl that there’s no money for food? Do you know how much she eats? Even an adult doesn’t eat that much.”
‘I’m hungry!’
Lika: “Today, the only food we have is stale bread, already nibbled on by my sister, and buckwheat porridge.”

Lika: “I want to cry because my mom ended up like this. She can’t walk, so she’s always sitting. When we go outside, passersby look at her like she’s a disabled person, and she feels awkward. Mom thinks everyone around is laughing at her. How can I comfort her? I cry myself because it’s so unfair.
I feel so sorry for my mom. My sister is also disabled from birth. Why are we being punished like this?”
Ketevan (26 years old): “I’m in unbearable pain; I can’t take it anymore! My back hurts, my hands go numb and swell.
The pain in my legs is so bad, it feels like they’re tied with ropes. We have to call an ambulance every day so the doctors can give me painkiller injections. We can’t afford the medication ourselves.”
Lika: “Auntie, come with me, I’ll show you our house. “The roof of our house is leaking, so when it rains, it pours down heavily.”
Lika: “The windows don’t have glass, just plastic. It’s so cold that our fingers go numb. And rats crawl in through the cracks in the walls.”
Lika: “We really need help! We can’t do it without you! My little sister needs medicine and diapers!”
Lika: “If everyone who reads our story donates just one lari, we would be so grateful! It’s so important for my mom because we can’t afford her tests or treatment. Please, help us save my mom! I just want her and my sister to get better and be able to walk!”
If you are willing to visit the family and help them in person, here is their address: Gori Municipality, village Artsevi.
