In this house, the only ones who aren’t afraid are the giant, hungry gray rats and the little Georgian children, too young to understand the horror of their situation… A loving Georgian mother tucks her three children into bed each night with anxiety in her heart. While they sleep, she fights off the cursed rats, always lurking, always waiting for the moment this house finally collapses. It’s terrifying! How can this happen in Georgia?!

Four-year-old Bezhaniko, speaking like an adult, points out a crumbling wall in his bedroom to a journalist from the Chernovetskyi Fund: “Be careful, ma’am! The rats crawl in through the cracks in the wall. They bite, and it really hurts. I’m scared of them. Aren’t you?”

Eter (23 years old): “It’s dangerous to live in this house, but we have nowhere else to go. The walls are crumbling, and stones fall right into the room. I’m so scared for my children! Please help me protect them!”

In 1991, an earthquake hit the village of Nigozeti (Chiatura municipality) and destroyed one of the house’s walls. The family patched up the gap with loose stones as a temporary fix.

Eter: “It’s been 34 years since the earthquake. We never had the money to reinforce the wall or properly repair the house. It’s so old now that even a strong wind could bring it down.”

The cracks grow bigger every day, spreading across the entire home.

Eter: “Look what my kids have for lunch – instant noodles. My husband works hard doing physical labor all day just to keep the children fed. Our social allowance barely covers diapers and baby food. We’ll never be able to afford repairs on our own.” 

Eter: “Our only hope is the kindness of strangers – of people who care and want to help.”  

If these three little children are buried under the rubble, we will never forgive ourselves. Let’s help this family buy the building materials they need and repair their home – before it’s too late.
