This isn’t a horror film. It’s not a TV show or a game. It was a heart-wrenching scream, coming from deep inside the house – the cry of a woman pushed beyond the limits of human pain. Her voice was so piercing, wild, and strained to the limits of human endurance that chills ran over me. It contained everything: unbearable pain, a plea for salvation, a primal agony…

I’ve heard many stories of suffering – but her scream shook me to my core. This was not just a cry of pain – this was a tortured soul in hell.

This was how Mariam Nersezashvili greeted us. The moment we stepped into her home, we froze – in horror, shame, and helplessness.

She screamed as if her body were being torn apart. As if her bones were being broken while she was still alive. And this has been happening every day and night for two years.

“I’m not living… I’m rotting in bed like the dead. Oh Lord… Don’t leave me in this hellish torment,” she wept.

Mariam is 63. But she is no elderly frail woman – she is a victim of torture, suffering pain for two relentless years. She lies. She breathes. She cries. She screams. Every movement feels like her bones are being hammered apart.

She suffers from severe coxarthrosis – her hip joints are completely destroyed. At 136 kilograms, the pain is unbearable. She can no longer stand, move, or live…

A team of leading volunteer physicians and professors diagnosed her condition as progressive – the pain will worsen every hour. An MRI in 2024 revealed severe narrowing of the hip joint spaces with cystic‑sclerotic changes. This is a very serious medical condition. The local trauma specialist recommended a total hip joint replacement. But the operation is expensive and unlikely to be done successfully in Georgia.

Mariam: “You can’t imagine what it’s like to feel your bones grinding together. I scream at night because I can’t stay silent. It’s like a knife is stabbing me every minute…”

Her son, Zurab (40), also suffers from serious illness: kidney cysts, back and chest pain, chronic prostatitis, and liver surgery in 2015. But he fights for his mother.

Zurab has never been married. He is not emotionally or physically ready for family life. He has no children. His life is suffering beside his mother. He cannot work – doctors forbade any physical exertion.

Zurab: “I don’t sleep – I listen to her breathing. I’m terrified that one day I’ll wake up, but she won’t. I’m dying beside her — just more slowly.”

His father, Ilia, is 64. He has one lung and suffers from high blood pressure and constant weakness.

When we first visited this family, we realized they could literally become a communal grave without urgent help.
They cannot be left alone for a single minute. They have nowhere to wait for help.

Their home is a prison. A tomb. Dark, suffocating, crumbling.

There is no job. No money for food or medications. Their combined income – 350 GEL per month from the mother’s pension. They mainly survive on vegetables they grow themselves in their garden.

This is their tiny garden, where they mainly grow vegetables, mostly tomatoes and potatoes.

When fieldwork is available nearby, sometimes the father and son work to earn a small daily wage. That’s all they have.

Inhuman suffering and fear of death haunt every corner of their home. It’s not just a house – it’s a refuge of sorrow.

We cannot solve all their problems at once. We didn’t even know where to begin. But we agreed: the first priority must be to relieve Mariam’s pain.

Friends, the Lord shows us this horror so we will open our hearts to Him. So we prove that we are human – not heartless animals. You cannot imagine how deeply this pains us, how bitter the injustice and cruelty of those who, by law, should prevent such suffering! But we are proud that the Fund’s friends have been honored by God to bring new hearts to Him!

Not everyone can help financially. Many of you pray. What matters is that Georgia grows in compassion, love, and kindness. This is our purpose!

What does Mariam need to survive?

Doctors are ready to perform a life-saving hip replacement. The national insurance will cover the surgery itself—but not the implant metal. The cost of the prosthetic needed for Mariam is 6,000 GEL.

Mariam: “The operation is my only chance. I pray it will happen. But without this metal, everything collapses! My body can’t support me any longer. I beg you, as a mother, as a human being – don’t let me die like this!”
