Forgive me, friends, but this could only be called one thing: “The Breath of Death, Closer Than Ever…” Seventeen-year-old Tsitsi, who suffers from epilepsy, prays every night to wake up alive to live just one more day. Because anything could happen: the ceiling might collapse… or her mother might not manage to pull her out of a severe seizure in time.

Tsitsi (17-year-old): “Dear God, the horror in our family is that both my mom and I have epilepsy. If we both have a seizure at the same time, chances are only one of us will survive – if that. Because my grandfather is elderly and has a hernia and my little sister is only eight; she couldn’t lift either of us… and she gets so scared. Epileptic seizures look terrifying from the outside: there’s foam at the mouth, and you have to quickly adjust the tongue so the person doesn’t choke. My dear mom’s seizures are especially bad – every time she dies in my arms and then comes back to life.”

This is Tsitsi’s little sister Mariam, eight years old. She worries a lot for her mother and sister, and starts crying every time someone mentions the disease.

Their mother, gravely ill, is raising her daughters alone. Their father abandoned them long ago – he never visits them, never helps, not even asks if they’re still alive. How do people like that even exist? They survive on disability pensions and a small social allowance.

The Khijakadze family lives in a crumbling house with broken windows and cracked walls.

What makes their situation even worse is that the house doesn’t even belong to them – a kind stranger let them stay there temporarily. But the house is in critical condition and could collapse at any moment. And they have nowhere else to go.

Tsitsi: “We’re afraid the roof will cave in and crush us. We pray every day: ‘Lord, please protect our family.’”

Dear friends, this is one of those moments where all of Georgia must come together for the sake of kindness! Together, we can help this suffering family buy a small home or at least a trailer in a village. We’ll never forgive ourselves if a tragedy happens and they’re buried under the ruins.

The grandfather’s old age has become a living hell. He has to cover the walls with tarps because insects and rats crawl out through the cracks.

Five people are crammed into a single room. The girls don’t even have a desk – they do their homework on their laps.

Mari: “I don’t even have my own bed. I sleep with my mom.”

From a young age, the girls have learned to work and help their mother in everything. The whole family tends a small garden just to keep from starving.

Imagine how hard it is for them living without hot water or a washing machine. Mariam and Tsitsi wash their clothes by hand – they don’t want to burden their mother.

Just look at these sad-eyed Georgian beauties… Abandoned by their father, left to survive in heartbreaking poverty with their sick mother. They’re essentially orphans – with a living parent. Are we really going to leave them like this? Children are our future. They need our help.

To save the lives of these two young, very ill women, we need funds to repair the roof and buy medications and food. Together, we can make it happen.

And if anyone has a home, even a temporary one that’s currently empty, please open your heart to this family. In time, we’ll help them buy a home of their own. We’re already looking into affordable prefab homes made here in Georgia. We’ll show you the options and decide together how many to order. But the reality we’re showing you now… it’s becoming unbearable to witness. No one should have to live like this. No one.
