“For never was a story of more woe than this of Juliet and her Romeo.” If Shakespeare were alive today, we wouldn’t be writing this post – he would. The greatest poet and playwright of all time would surely take up the pen to tell this story himself. This is a story of love and devotion between two elderly people – Geriso and Tamila – both gravely ill. 65-year-old Geriso, blind in one eye, pleads for help: to get his beloved Tamila examined and fed before she dies in front of him from diabetes and epilepsy. Today, he gave her his piece of bread – because the woman he loves mustn’t go even a moment without eating. Geriso prays that another terrible seizure won’t take away the woman he’s spent his whole life with…They live in poverty so crushing, you wouldn’t wish it on your worst enemy. This story would bring even Shakespeare to tears. They need help right now.
REPOST RIGHT AWAY, MY GOOD MAN! HELP YOUR FRIENDS FIND THE WAY TO GOD!
Dear friends, today we want to tell you about one of the most unfortunate families living in the Gori region. Meet the head of the family – 65-year-old Geriso. He lost vision in one eye after local boys threw sand at him as a child, and doctors couldn’t save it. He’s lived his whole life disabled.
This heartbroken man lives in an old hut with his family – in extreme poverty and ruin. These kind and decent people have no one to turn to in their suffering except us, friends.
Geriso (65): “I wouldn’t wish our life on anyone. When it rains, water pours through the ceiling – we rush to place buckets everywhere. We don’t even have the most basic appliances — no stove to cook on, no washing machine. Not even a bathroom to bathe like a human being. Tell me, is this a life?”
Blind in one eye, Geriso picks up odd jobs when he can. He earns about 50 GEL a week – and spends it all on food and medicine for his ailing wife, whom he cares for.
Tamila suffers from epilepsy. The violent seizures torment her. She also has diabetes and is insulin-dependent. As you know, diabetes is a cruel disease – it kills slowly.
Just a few days ago, Tamila collapsed, hitting her head. They had to call an ambulance to bring her back to consciousness. She urgently needs a CT scan of her brain, but the family simply can’t afford it.
Tamila is completely dependent on medication – a single day without her pills could cost her life. To make sure she doesn’t miss a dose, we’re turning to you again, dear friends of the Fund. You’ve helped so many times before. A kind heart always finds someone to warm. Please, give Tamila your warmth now – she’s so scared…
Tamila (57): “There’s not a single place on my body that doesn’t hurt. You’d better ask what doesn’t hurt… But even worse than the physical pain is the pain in my heart. My son died. I wish I had died instead of him…”
Tamila’s condition worsened after the sudden death of her beloved son Lasha. He was only 33 when his heart stopped. There are no words that can ease the grief of a mourning mother.
Khatuna, daughter-in-law (41): “We don’t even have enough money for food. Sometimes we eat moldy bread just to survive.”
Khatuna: “During surgery on my ovary, the doctors forgot a pair of forceps inside me and stitched me up. In Europe, a doctor like that would’ve lost their license. But here, she wasn’t even reprimanded. The forceps — can you believe it? — were only removed four years later when the pain became unbearable. I barely survived.”
If the Ministry of Health had revoked that doctor’s license back then – that reckless, negligent doctor – Georgia might not have lost another of its citizens. According to Khatuna, that same doctor caused another death. Another life cut short. Another soul taken because of criminal negligence.
“As far as I know, that doctor is now in prison – but for another surgery that ended in a patient’s death. God spared me. I can’t work anymore – I’m not allowed to lift anything. I’ve had six ovarian surgeries, and they removed my gallbladder.”
Khatuna has been trying to have a child for ten years. She prays every day for a miracle – to become a mother. Let’s pray together for Khatuna, dear friends. This devastated family is in desperate need of hope and at least a sliver of joy.
But this second struggling couple in the family has no money for treatment either. If we help Khatuna undergo the necessary examinations, a new life may come into the world. Please help, kind-hearted people – this is a sacred cause! Not a single day can be lost.
Please don’t leave this family alone with their pain and illness. Their only hope is your compassion.
