And there are three minor children, a loving wife, and an elderly mother who depend on Gaga! If he dies, more tragedies will follow – even the youngest, the family’s pride and joy, seven-year-old Misha, is seriously ill and urgently needs medical tests. But where can they find the money? Lord, don’t abandon this close-knit family and leave them without a breadwinner!

From a young age and for 14 years, Gaga worked for a Ukrainian criminal – a billionaire who owns a mine. This is a very dangerous job for health in a manganese mine, where he worked with dignity until he was 40! But what do the owners care about his health! If he dies, they will take a new one… Woe!

Have you ever tried to scream in a dream, but instead of a cry, a treacherous wheeze escapes your throat? It’s terrifying! Now imagine that it’s not a dream! One day you wake up, and your voice is gone.

That’s how Gaga, a 40-year-old miner, describes his condition.

“This illness could kill me. But I’m not ready for that. I’m a miner, and I’ve been always proud of that! This job is not for the faint of heart!  It’s for real men!  Every day, I fought to survive deep in a dark mine—for my children, for my family. I don’t want this disease to take me like this. Please, help me…!”

And it’s true, friends! Cancer is not only often a death sentence. Sometimes it would almost be easier to face a firing squad or die in battle for your country! Because what lies ahead for Gaga is unbearable agony – the constant, terrifying wait for the worst, and sometimes that suffering drags on for years.

It started as small papillomas, but over time it turned into a deadly threat. Every sound is a struggle: his voice is hoarse and almost gone. Without urgent treatment, the tumor could completely block his airway.

I brought the microphone close to his throat so we could hear his voice. Dear reader, if you are reading this now – believe me, words cannot describe it. You need to hear it for yourself: But it’s better to do everything possible to make sure this father, husband, and son survives!

“Immediate treatment is needed,” the doctors say. A full examination in Tbilisi costs hundreds of lari, and ahead lies a long and difficult fight. The family doesn’t even have enough money to pay for the first appointment.

But this is not the only hardship. Seven-year-old Misha – Gaga and Irina’s youngest son – survived a serious illness as a baby: leishmaniasis. They managed to save him, but the consequences remain. 

Dear reader, you might think that behind the child is a cowshed. Ah… if only it were. This is the family’s only home. Tell us, which is worse: the disease or a life stripped of dignity? What do you think, dear reader? Should a sick hero really have to live with his large family in a shed?

Maybe just for a while, until our entire Fund finds the best treatment option for Gaga – and maybe even buys a house. Does anyone have a decent vacant home closer to Tbilisi, where all the hospitals are?

Today Misha hardly speaks. He is different from other children: he does not play like them and struggles to read and write. The parents know something is seriously wrong and that he needs an examination. But they don’t even have the money to take the boy to a doctor.

Irina, the wife, does not work. She takes care of her husband, the children, and her mother-in-law.“I don’t know what to do. I have lost everyone – a few years ago, my beloved father passed away; last week, my only brother; and now this terrible disease has struck my husband…” says Irina.

“I am afraid of losing my husband, and I’m also afraid our son will never talk…I am a woman whom death is taking a husband from.” I am a mother who watches her child’s suffering every day. I am a person abandoned by people…”

The Chagelishvili family lives in a tiny one-room house in the village of Khreiti, Chiatura district. Old walls, cramped space, and sparse furniture – it is extreme poverty, where every day is a struggle for the bare essentials.

There is not even a refrigerator or washing machine.

In the small living area sleeps Gaga’s mother, who also has health problems, but right now her only thought is for Gaga.

“I don’t sleep at night, I think only about one thing: if something happens to my son, I won’t survive it,” admits Gaga’s mother, 63-year-old Guliko.

Now Gaga cannot work in the mine. The family lives on his mother’s pension – 420 lari – and 200 lari in social allowance. This is barely enough for food and medicine. A complete examination and treatment in Tbilisi – including possible surgery or specialized treatment for cancer of the airways – requires several hundred lari, an impossible amount for this family.

Every day the parents watch their son, knowing the situation is critical. Gaga’s illness and Misha’s problems have combined, putting a crushing weight on the family. Now their future depends on urgent help.

Now Gaga cannot protect them himself. But we can. Sometimes saving a life doesn’t mean a major surgery – it’s the simplest step:a ticket to a clinic, a doctor’s visit, a paid procedure that gives hope.

For the Chagelishvili family, this help means everything today: a chance for a father to go on living, a chance for a son not to lose his childhood if his dad is gone. They ask for only one thing – the chance to fight.
