And now Gia lives in a foreign land – alone, without his comrades killed in battle, with a seriously ill adult son… This 57-year-old warrior is “waiting” for death in agony: humiliated and insulted by everyone who was obliged to help him survive, like a small child!  

Decent people always repay their debts to a friend with gratitude! Friends, we are Gia’s debtors! What will our youth think if they have to defend the Motherland? That they, wounded and sick, will be abandoned like dogs to die in disgrace?!

Gia Beridze, a 57-year-old veteran of the terrible war in Abkhazia, once managed to survive it. But fate turned out to be merciless: having survived the hell of the front, today he is waging a new, no less difficult battle – this time against his own heart disease.

Gia has a whole bunch of life-threatening diagnoses. His heart is working at only 30%. The man can be given a new heart, but officials have already crossed him off the list of living. Now helping Gia is on our conscience!

In 2011, this brave man suffered a heart attack, after which he underwent stenting. And in June 2019, he underwent several difficult surgeries: two coronary artery bypass grafts, valve replacement, and the installation of a plastic aorta.

That same year, he was fitted with a special device to support his heart, as doctors diagnosed complete atrioventricular block.

Today, George’s condition is extremely serious: heart failure is developing, and fluid is accumulating in the heart. He suffers from severe arrhythmia, constant suffocation, and swelling of the legs.

Since April of this year, Gia has not been hospitalized anymore – he is being treated at home. But doctors warn: without constant medication, the veteran’s heart could stop at any moment.

Gia’s personal life is also full of trials. His first wife died of cancer, and his daughter lives in America and is seriously ill herself. His little grandson is being raised by a stranger.

The man has a son from his second marriage, but he has almost forgotten his father. How terrible it is to realize that your own grandson will not know anything about the founder of the family!

Gia lives in the so-called housing for displaced persons, in a modest one-room apartment.

The equipment in the house barely works. Gia’s pension and social benefits amount to about 277 lari. The man has almost nothing left for living and medicine.

Today, Gia turns to our fund with one request – to help him buy medications. They cost about 500 lari per month, and his allowance is 170 lari. And no one thinks that without these drugs, Gia’s heart simply won’t hold up.

“Every breath is a small victory for me,” says the courageous Georgy. “Now my weapon against death is medicine.”

Knowing Gia’s restless nature, we understand: every morning, waking up and remembering that there is no money for pills, he worries so much, as if the enemy’s bullet has already been fired – and this time it will definitely hit him right in the heart! God, God, how scary it is to live, all the time expecting the last day of your life!

Gia should have a supply of medicine for at least six months. It costs only 3,000 lari. The man has not asked for more for now. Although we think that a year would be better! Let the warrior live at least this year in peace, without the feeling that death is lurking around the corner.
