After all, it is impossible to build a house in one day. Yesterday we called one of the best construction teams from Tbilisi. They say that a new house is needed. But time is running out… How much more does grandma Mzia have left on this earth – years, months, days, hours, minutes? In Europe, all the newspapers would write about such a catastrophe and it would be shown on television. But we are not in Europe. Apart from us, the lonely and unhappy old lady has no one to rely on…

The worst thing is that Grandma Mzia is almost blind. She sees only blurred silhouettes; the world is immersed in semi-darkness for her.

In her youth, Mzia was completely different. She held her head proudly, her gait was confident. Now her body is hunched over, and her gaze is directed downwards to the ground. No one knows what kind of old age awaits us ahead. The ways of the Lord are inscrutable!

This photo is yet another proof that people should value every minute, every second, every new day given by the Lord. Life is merciless and, in an instant, can raze to the ground a young, beautiful, healthy person. It can deprive him of dignity so much that even the rocks will cry from pity for him!

Once upon a time, Grandma Mzia was full of strength and energy. She baked and sold cakes, and in those days she was surrounded by friends and relatives. But now that she is ill and cannot provide for herself, these people have disappeared. Why is life so cruel and unfair?

Yes, Grandma Mzia is blind and will never be able to look into your eyes, but remember that God sees everything…    

Mzia, 75 years old: “I understand that many people are having a hard time right now. But who will understand me, blind, sick, living in ruins? I can say that I “survive” on a pension and a 40 GEL allowance, there is not enough for medicine and diapers, and there is nothing to say about food. Sometimes, when things are really bad, I think that it would be better if I did not exist. But then I remember my daughter, I remember God and again I pray that He will give me strength. I raised a child alone; her father abandoned us even before our daughter was born. For us, he has been dead since then.”

Mzia, 75 years old: “Christianity is not just words. It is deeds. It is helping your neighbor. It is mercy. I believe that there are good people in the world who will not leave me in trouble. I believe in miracles. I believe in God.”

Grandma Mzia’s modest request: for a new bed and a comfortable mattress, for food, for medicine that will ease her suffering. For a house where she can live out her days in peace, without fear that the roof will collapse on her head. We don’t know how much time we have to help Grandma Mzia. But we know that we can make her life much better. We can give her hope, show that she is not forgotten and that there are people ready to support her.
