We took it upon ourselves to do our own journalistic investigation of what happened. And if the facts are confirmed, then the scoundrel will not be envied! We hear too often about medical errors, and it breaks our hearts.

The first step to recovery and identifying the criminal in a white coat, if there was one, is a thorough examination and analysis of this terrible case. And here we really need the support of your hearts, friends! We are announcing a fundraiser for Sofiko’s examination in Turkey, including checking the correctness of her diagnosis!

Sofiko is now 39 years old. And there is a high probability of returning this beautiful Georgian girl’s health and the lost right to a family!

Sofiko: “Do you know what it’s like to be alone within four walls? My body is my cage! My childhood, my best years were spent in suffering. Please help me get this new chance!”

Sixteen years is the time of first love, friendship, hopes and dreams. The age when girls take their first steps into adulthood. But for Sofiko Chanturidze, at 16, the world stopped… Now she is 39.

“I couldn’t walk anymore. Even two steps without outside help were impossible. When my classmates went to school, rejoiced and made plans, I remained within four walls, far from the world,” Sofiko recalls.

At first, neighbors and a few classmates visited her. But very soon the visits stopped.

Sofiko: “I cried quietly, so that no one could hear. Tears streamed down my face, but the pain inside was stronger than any words. I asked myself: “if I were healthy, what would my life be like?” And then I answered myself bitterly: “Sofiko, don’t dream… You are disabled. You must accept it.”

It all started with pain and swelling in her leg. Doctors diagnosed the girl with arthritis. She was treated with hormonal drugs and advised to put her feet in cold water. But instead of getting better, the disease progressed. The wrong diagnosis deprived the girl of her future.

25 years have passed since then. All this time, Sofiko has been bedridden. Her arms and legs are deformed; her spine hurts from lying down for so long. But the worst thing is the years of loneliness, silence and lost dreams.

Sofiko’s family lives in constant anxiety. Her mother, 63-year-old Makvala, is seriously ill herself: she underwent removal of her female organs, suffers from severe pain and high blood pressure.  

“Sometimes it seems to me that there is only illness in our house… But I hold on for my daughter, for her hope,” — the mother says through tears.

Recently, Sofiko saw a video online about two brothers born with the same diagnosis as hers. These young people went to a Turkish clinic and received help there.

“When I saw this, it was like I was born again,” says Sofiko. “I said to myself: maybe not everything is lost for me. Maybe I can get back on my feet too.”

This video became a turning point for the girl: after 25 years of pain and loneliness, Sofiko believed in the future again. But she can’t cope without our help.

Georgian doctors have admitted that there is no clinic in the country that could help Sofiko. Turkish specialists are already examining her case. The first step should be new complex tests that will be conducted there. They will show whether Sofiko has a chance of recovery and what kind.

But for the family, the upcoming expenses in the Turkish clinic are unaffordable. “I’m not asking for the impossible. I know that I will never be able to run… But please give me a chance to at least stand! At least walk a little with a stick. At least once go out into the yard and breathe air,” asks Sofiko.

Sofiko lived 25 years within four walls. Her youth and young adulthood were spent alone, but she still has a chance to recover. Every contribution, every repost is Sofiko’s step towards a new life. Friends, let’s give her a chance for a miracle together.
