Beka desperately wants to live! Check your pulse – and do it every day. We at the Fund will feel more at ease knowing you’re watching your heart rate, friends. If your heart rate is above 120 beats per minute, please see a doctor. Beka’s heart rate reaches 214 beats per minute. It’s almost impossible to imagine, and he lives every minute as if it could be his last. His condition affects only about one person in a million – but does that make it any easier for compassionate people like us? A disease that is found in only one person out of a million has been diagnosed in our fellow countryman, 26-year-old Beka. If a normal resting heart rate is 60–100 beats per minute, Beka’s reaches 214. For 13 years he has not left his dark room.
REPOST RIGHT AWAY, MY GOOD MAN! HELP YOUR FRIENDS FIND THE WAY TO GOD!
Thirteen years – can you imagine? Thirteen long years while life around him bursts with activity – and our Beka is saying farewell to life. “My whole life is only two things – endless fear and unbearable pain,” he says.
Beka was born by C-section. At birth a doctor accidentally cut his temple with a lancet. From the very first second of his life, this poor boy’s troubles began. At the age of three he watched with his own eyes as his mother caught fire. In the dark 1990s, when there was no electricity or gas, many families used highly flammable liquids for lamps and heaters. One such attempt ended with Beka’s mother’s body catching fire.
Even an adult’s psyche would struggle to cope with such a sight – you can imagine how devastating it was for a three-year-old child. Fortunately, Beka’s mother survived. But those terrifying images were deeply imprinted in the boy’s mind.
The misfortune did not end there. At age eight, Beka hit his head on a concrete slab and suffered a serious head injury – four stitches were required.

As he grew, the boy was far more serious and thoughtful than other children his age. Instead of toys, he held books in his hands. Nights became a living nightmare; he woke every night from fear. This was not fear caused by a bad dream but a terrifying reality.
At 13 the terrifying attacks expanded: he became afraid to go outside even in daylight. He successfully finished 9th grade, but from 10th grade onward he could no longer attend school because he began suffering from severe paroxysmal seizures during the day.
It was at the age of 13 that Beka stayed in his room one day and never came out – and he has remained there for 13 years since. This is not a scene from a science-fiction or horror movie – it is a horrific reality that happens to only one person in a million. And that one person is the son of our small homeland: 26-year-old Beka.
My recovery is possible, but it requires funding.
Do not think Beka is crazy. I – a reporter for the Chernovetskyi Fund – spent hours talking with him and was struck by his intelligence. Yet imagine: for 13 years, day and night, he has lived alone in a dark room battling anxiety disorder, seizures, and hellish pain.
At the reporter’s request, Beka tried for the first time in many years to face the daylight. He managed it for only two minutes. His face went pale with fear and he returned to his dark room.
Beka, 26: I have endured unbearable torment for 13 years and now I feel I can no longer bear it. That is why I tried to end my life.
I (the fund’s reporter) talked with Beka for three hours in that dark room, where even a dim light was forbidden and the curtains could not be opened. The dark room was ‘lit’ by only two things: Beka’s kind green eyes and his tears.
When I asked Beka about his childhood friends and classmates, I realized he was avoiding the answer. Finally, he told me that all his childhood friends had forgotten about him. Not a single classmate came to see him or contacted Beka’s mother to ask about their old friend’s condition. Shame on them and on the parents who raised such people.
The only classmate who keeps in touch with Beka is Robizon. I am sure he is reading this article now. The Chernovetskyi Fund thanks you for your humanity and support.
Sometimes Beka dares to pull back the curtains and look out the window. He told me he is not expecting anyone – yet his eyes say otherwise. Ah… Only God knows what this poor young man carries in his heart. Who knows how deeply he longs for the day when his childhood friends will open the gate and come in.
Nino (Beka’s mother): “For me every day, every minute, every second is the fear that I will not find Beka alive. Imagine the hell a mother goes through when she sees her son collapse on the floor and thinks she was too late… that she didn’t make it in time. My scream reaches the heavens. But perhaps my prayer has not yet reached God.
When I spoke with Beka’s mother Nino, I was convinced that the mission of the Fund’s friends goes beyond saving just Beka. By saving him, you save two lives.
From the Fund’s correspondent: “The Chernovetskyi Fund appeals to everyone who has ever for a moment thought: ‘If you can’t feel sorry for yourself, feel sorry for your mothers.’ Whether they are alive or dead, a mother is the one who, in every world, will still know and see what her child is doing.”
If all of Georgia unites, we can send him abroad for treatment. Let’s give Beka a new life, a new future. This kind young man deserves the chance to build a family and have children. Friends of the Fund, you must work a miracle now – and the Fund believes you can do it. We must not allow this 26-year-old’s life to be lost to cursed poverty – otherwise we will never forgive ourselves.
From the Chernovetskyi Fund: If you, who are reading this, ever experience suicidal thoughts, please seek a psychologist’s help.
If you don’t even have money for a trip to a psychologist, or you live in a remote area and cannot visit a specialist, contact the Chernovetskyi Fund – we will help arrange a confidential consultation. Remember: there is always a way out. Remember: nothing is more precious than life. Remember: life is a gift from God.
If you are willing to visit the family and help them in person, here is their address: Kakheti, Telavi.
