At sixty, Janiko is tormented not only by her body but also by the anguish in her soul. Today, she has been robbed of her dignity. And we, friends, are simply obliged to show this unfortunate woman that we value her right to live, that to us she is a respected human being! It hurts so much, it feels so unfair!

It was an extreme injustice that forced Janiko to reach out to our Fund. Why? Why don’t people understand that when they come to us with their problems, they give us the chance to feel like true believers and worthy citizens of our great country?

Once, Janiko Nadiradze was a tireless worker, filled with love for her village.

“I would rise at dawn, milk the cows, make cheese, feed the chickens, keep the yard in order, cook for the whole family,” – she recalls.

“Forgive me for not being able to welcome you with a proper table,” Janiko says. “For an Imeretian woman, it is a shame to receive guests without a feast. But what can I do? I no longer have the strength, I cannot walk… I can’t even feed myself if there isn’t someone nearby to hand me a plate.” Tears well up in her eyes as she speaks.

A medical mistake has turned this energetic Georgian woman into a frail, immobile patient.  Doctors cannot explain to her family why her condition has worsened. Perhaps the quality of the prosthesis  implanted in her knee was not really good. But no one is willing to take responsibility. The truth of the matter is that before the operation she walked and now she cannot.

It all began in 2017. Janiko developed knee pain, and doctors decided to perform knee replacement surgery. The poor family didn’t have enough money to pay for the surgery, and she was forced to sell her cows.

Janiko still has a chance to walk again, to care for her home and her family. But she needs another surgery – one her family simply cannot afford.

Her husband Badri is also disabled and seriously ill: he suffered a stroke, has arrhythmia, and serious vein problems.

“I don’t think about myself,” – he says, embracing his wife. “I want only one thing – for my Janiko to be the same joyful, strong woman she once was.”

As for their son, Janiko raised a true Georgian man, now serving in the Georgian army. But everyone knows that the salaries of servicemen in Georgia are, sadly, far too small to support a family.

Janiko is 60 years old. In our times, this is not an age to call someone old – especially a Georgian village woman.

“I don’t feel old, I’m not finished,” – Janiko smiles. “I can work! Even if I no longer have cows, I can plant vegetables, herbs, tomatoes… I just want to be able to stand on my feet again, to walk again! I’ll grow enough harvest to feed all of Imereti!”

Dear friends, are we really going to let this wonderful woman continue to suffer? Why should she pay the price for someone else’s mistake? She turned to us for help – and we must support her. Our country needs women like he – mothers and grandmothers who carry its spirit.
