SOS! SOS! It was a truly heartbreaking day at the Fund. A call came from abroad, and in the desperate voice of a mother we heard: “My one-year-old baby is dying, and I can’t do anything to save him…”

One-year-old David is now unconscious in a Turkish clinic. A full medical examination revealed that in Georgia he was given the wrong treatment, which only worsened the condition of this little angel. Now, Turkish doctors are fighting with all their strength to save the life of this Georgian boy. God bless them! Very soon the clinic must be paid $7,000. That is the price of a child’s life! Lord, how did we come to this?

David was born in water contaminated with a virus. From his very first minutes of life, he was placed in an incubator. But just a week after being discharged, he began having terrible seizures, and the poor baby was rushed back to the hospital.

His mother entrusted the life of her newborn to doctors, but they prescribed the wrong treatment. Negligence, indifference, or ignorance – it is for God to judge. But what are we to do now? How can we help this tiny boy whose fragile body lies motionless on a hospital bed? How can we support his desperate 20-year-old mother, who with tears in her eyes begs: “Please, son, look at me just once. I beg you: let me feel, even for a moment, that you sense I am beside you…”

The poor child opens his eyes, but his brain is so deeply affected that he does not respond to anything.

There is, however, one piece of hope: after examining David, experienced doctors believe that with proper treatment, he has a chance to recover. If everything is done correctly, by the age of five he may be completely healthy. But this is an extremely difficult process that requires enormous financial resources.

David is only one year old. How happy his young mother was on the day he was born.  Could she have imagined that so soon her little angel would be fighting for his life?

Dear friends, we ask you to pay close attention to what we say now. This is not just about recovery. This is about life and death. If David does not receive the urgent medical care he needs in Turkey, tomorrow his mother could be holding her child’s lifeless body. Today, the life of this one-year-old boy costs $7,000.

So many little angels have already left this world recently… We are still carrying that pain, and we cannot allow yet another tiny angel to lose the fight for life.

Right now, his little heart is beating at an incredible speed. Look at him – so vulnerable, so helpless – and yet fighting so fiercely to live. 

Dear reader, it does not matter whether you are rich or poor. Today, just give up one piece of chocolate for your healthy child who is happily waiting for you at home. Remember: the money saved on that chocolate bar could give another child the gift of life.
