In October 2024, little Mariam was taken to Turkey, where she finally received an accurate diagnosis! Can you imagine, friends – for the first few months after the doctors in Georgia gave their diagnosis, the mother believed her child had cancer!   Unfortunately, Mariam has been diagnosed with the most severe form of arthritis. Most people know the kind of excruciating pain this disease brings. The most terrifying part is that severe arthritis can lead to disability. 

Sadly, Mariam in Turkey was not diagnosed with a “mild” form – she now faces a severe form of arthritis. If we don’t help, her fragile little body will be wracked with pain so intense that words can’t describe it.  

Can you even imagine that this beautiful little girl could be deformed by disease? Severe arthritis leads to disability. 

Look at her – she’s like a doll. Beautiful, gentle, angelic. Her sad eyes radiate kindness.

Mariam urgently needs a full medical examination in Turkey.

Friends of the Fund, this is not just about the child’s health – it’s about saving her life. Mariam was initially misdiagnosed in Georgia. As a result, her treatment was also incorrect, which led to inflammation in the coronary vessels of her heart, progressing to an aneurysm. A little longer, and the Georgian doctors might have killed her.

For 20 days, she spent in the ICU, with doctors giving no hope.

But Saint Mary preserved the life of the girl named after the Virgin.

Since then, Mariam has been taking expensive medications daily – not to cure her, but to keep her alive.

Friends, please note this carefully: this is about preserving life, not curing the disease.

For us at the Fund, it is hard to imagine that the good heart of this little angel could ever stop beating. And that tragic morning will surely come if we do not urgently obtain her medications.

These medications are shipped from Switzerland to Turkey. 

What can a helpless mother do? What could she possibly sell? Even their home is not their own. She has money only enough to take the bus to Turkey. Alright – she goes today.  Tomorrow morning, she will be in Turkey. And then what? Who will provide the expensive medication to a Georgian mother in a foreign country? The troubles don’t end there.

Even if we manage to raise the necessary amount, purchasing this medication is nearly impossible, as it is not exported from Switzerland to Turkey. 

The Turkish clinic, based on proper medical documentation, contacts the Swiss clinic, and only then is the medication shipped.  These procedures take nearly a full month. But the child has medicine left for only three weeks. I’m sure you understand what this means…
