On October 6, 2016, the life of the beautiful Maka was divided into “before” and “after.” On that fateful day, she was hit by an ambulance.

The blow was so powerful that, upon seeing the aftermath, doctors simply threw up their hands: “Medicine is powerless. All that remains is to pray.” Maka spent three weeks in a coma, teetering between life and death.

But there is nothing stronger than a mother’s prayer; a miracle happened – the girl survived.

Liana (58 years old): “My daughter’s chances of survival were slim to none, only 1 percent in 100. After the trepanation, half of her skull remained. She still suffers from severe headaches. How can I help her if I don’t even have money for painkillers?”

Look, before the accident, Maka was so beautiful, energetic, and worked as a TV DJ. She had a loving husband. But after the tragic accident, she lost everything. Now she has no family, no friends, no colleagues. A cruel fate has left her disabled, and the world seemed to have forgotten her existence. Her husband left Maka immediately after the accident and doesn’t even care how she’s feeling.

Liana has also been caring for her brother’s seriously ill daughter for 20 years. Natia suffered from a birth injury, sustaining brain damage from birth; she has difficulty walking, and her arms are paralyzed. Her mother, unable to cope, left the child with Liana.

Look, seriously ill Natia and Maka are sleeping on crumbling beds.

Liana (58 years old): “Our life has never been easy. My husband left us when Maka was seven. There was a catastrophic shortage of money for food. I couldn’t bear to watch my daughter starve. So, I made the hardest decision of my life – I gave her up to an orphanage for a while. God knows how hard it was. The orphanage was close to home, and I visited Maka every day. I worked tirelessly to earn at least some money so I could take my daughter home on weekends.”

Liana (58 years old): “We live in abject poverty on Natia and Maka’s disability pension. I’m in debt to every store in the area. If it weren’t for the social canteen, we would have died of hunger long ago. No one helps us. If anyone did, we wouldn’t have turned to the Chernovetskyi Fund for help.”

Liana herself suffers from diabetes and poisonous goiter, but cannot afford to spend money on her own health.

Liana (58 years old): “If something happens to me, what will happen to the girls? I’ll take my worries about them with me to the grave.”

Liana (58 years old): “Our main problem right now is the gas stove. It’s very old, and I’m afraid of a gas leak. We could explode.”

Friends, you wouldn’t abandon a woman with two seriously ill children in need, would you? The girls need food, hygiene products, and beds. But most importantly, a new gas stove to avoid tragedy.

Liana (58 years old): “Thank God we live in Georgia—an Orthodox country where people’s hearts are filled with kindness. It is this kindness of our compatriots that has allowed us to survive until today. We sincerely hope that we will not be left without support.
