It was Friday, 3:00 p.m. Around her – white hospital walls, and the unbearable smell of medicine filling the air…

The silence was deafening in its heaviness… And soon – the medical verdict: cancer. That was the day when fear settled in the eyes of little Anastasia and her brother – the fear of losing their mother.

The tumor is literally “eating away” at Salome’s bone. Half of it has already been destroyed — and the process continues. This means that soon, installing an implant will no longer be possible. Then the life of this young mother will be cut short, and her little children will be left orphans…

The woman urgently needs knee surgery and an implant, but the procedure is extremely expensive.

Salome (35-year-old): “Perhaps there’s nothing worse than pain in your bones. With each passing day, my chances of surgery get smaller. The bone is almost gone – and that means my life is fading away too. I want to live… I’m terribly afraid to die… But more than death, I fear that my little children will become orphans. They’re at an age when they need mama the most.”

The poor mother can no longer walk on her own. She manages only a few steps with crutches – and then the pain becomes unbearable, so strong that even the strongest painkillers can no longer help.

Two small children watch their mother suffer, powerless to ease her pain. Lord, only You know what fire burns in the hearts of these children!

Anastasia (12 years old): “I was eight when I cooked lunch for the first time, because Mama couldn’t get out of bed. At first, I even cut my hand a few times while using a knife. I clean the house, wash, iron, hang curtains, climb onto the windowsills to wash the windows. And while I’m doing all that, I see other kids playing outside. I want to play too, but…” (Anastasia sighs heavily.) 

It felt as if, along with those words, the child’s tiny, kind heart broke.

Every day, their mother used to give them a little money for a school snack. Anastasia and her brother saved it – and bought their mother these beautiful flowers.

How can we allow the bond between a mother and her children to be cut off so soon? No, we must not let that happen!

This fragile woman, weakened by cancer, is fighting not only for her own life but also caring for a helpless little kitten – blind and abandoned, who now sees Salome as his mother.

When I, a correspondent of the Chernovetskyi Fund, was leaving this kind Georgian family, mthe children’s eyes told me they wanted to say something personally.

Anastasia: “I beg you, please tell people that if they help my mom get her surgery, I promise that when I grow up, I’ll repay every one of them with the same kindness.”
