Lika was born a beautiful, intelligent, kind Georgian girl.

She was 13 when, during a game, a boy struck her head with a large, heavy stone. He didn’t mean to hurt her – but without realizing it, he destroyed the life of both the girl and her mother, who has become one of the most heartbroken women in the world.

Lika’s life turned into a living nightmare.  Cruel fate delivered a terrible verdict:                 

EPILEPSY.

Lika can say only three words – “Mama,” “yes,” and “no” – and each one sounds like a plea for help.

“When she has a seizure, I hold her head and just repeat, ‘Lika, please breathe… breathe…’ I’m terrified that one day she won’t open her eyes,” whispers her mother, 44-year-old Tamriko Kartvelishvili.

The Tsukhishvili family’s story is a cry for help coming from a tiny, rented house where four sisters live with their exhausted but unbreakable mother.

But above all, it is the story of one girl whose life shattered in a single moment.

The blow of that stone stole her future – her dreams of marriage and motherhood. She just turned 19. She was born perfectly healthy. She studied. She laughed. She ran around the yard like all children.

Mama: “She had a gift – she felt compassion for anyone who suffered. She had such a huge heart, truly God-given. If someone was upset, she would always come over and joke until everyone started laughing.”

“How could this happen?” her mother cries. “I never left my sunshine alone! Sometimes I think… the devil saw this wonderful child and cast his worst spell on her.”

“I thought everything would pass… She stood up and said it didn’t hurt. But soon she stopped speaking normally… and a year later, the seizures began,” the mother recalls.

Lika now lives with severe consequences:

• perinatal encephalopathy (PEP)
• mental retardation
• head trauma with progressive impairment
• epileptic seizures every 1–3 days

  

She can walk and eat on her own, but she is completely dependent on her mother. She wears diapers.

“When she looks at me, it’s as if she’s begging: help me! But she cannot say what hurts or what she needs. Only I understand her. But how will we survive if no help comes?”  But tragedy never comes alone. Be careful, and seek God’s protection.

Lika is a Group I disabled person. Her illness is like a shadow that grows darker every day. Worst of all, Lika is losing her memory. She no longer understands the world around her and forgets what she once knew.

“Dear God, please don’t let my beloved child forget me…”

Friends, never walk past when you see children playing dangerously –  they do not understand the consequences.  Lika may lose even the little that remains.

Without treatment, monitoring, and medication, her condition deteriorates. Every seizure is another blow to the brain Every seizure is another risk that Lika will forget one more word. And one day, she may no longer be able to say even “Mama.”

The family is on the brink of devastating poverty.  The father is abroad, divorced, and offers no support. Their total income is about 800 lari of social allowance and Lika’s disability pension. This isn’t enough even for the basics: medications, diapers, food, medical exams.

Five-year-old Barbare also has a speech delay but has never seen a specialist – they simply cannot afford it.

Rent is 200 lari.

“Sometimes I choose between buying bread or buying Lika’s medication. It breaks my heart,” – the mother says.

– How can we help you?

Mama: “I’s embarrassing to ask, but I’ve reached the breaking point.” We urgently need to raise funds for medical examinations for the girls. I need your spiritual support as well – Pray for our family when you visit church. And if anyone has even a small ability to help financially, please support us. We have no household appliances, no food supplies, no medications, no diapers, no money for examinations. The Fund assured me they will apply to the Ministry of Health for financial assistance, but added that they will also rely on their community of supporters to help the family. 

We can no longer buy anything on credit – neither in the pharmacy nor in the store. You can prepay for their items via bank transfer. We probably owe a lot for electricity and gas, and — the landlord (how frightening it is) — he is right to worry. He could evict us into the snow this winter.

Our 74-year-old founder always reminds us: “Only people blessed by God are granted the honor of extending a hand to those sinking in the swamp of poverty. Poverty swallows a person alive, drains their Georgian dignity, whispers poisonous lies into their ears, and shows them scenes that make them think: ‘They don’t deserve your help. Let them fend for themselves. Enjoy your own warm home and your own food – you deserve it.   Others can survive on their own. And me is me. As for God — I’ll negotiate with Him myrself.’”

Friends, we have shared with you an extremely difficult case. Even the most talented journalist cannot describe all the hardships in a single day. We sincerely hope that you will not turn away and will fulfill the Lord’s command: Extend your hand to your neighbor, and I will extend Mine to you. 

The family is in desperate financial need. They require help paying for rent, gas, water, and other essentials – food, a heater, firewood. It is already cold… The poor children cling to one another just to stay warm.
