Stage-three cancer has struck a young Georgian woman who spent her life protecting abandoned animals, even though she herself was always in need.  The tumor presses so hard it feels as if life itself is being clenched into a fist, blood slowly dripping away. It would be hard to find a kinder person in all of Georgia. The disease is steadily draining her strength, yet she continues to live for those she loves – and for her final dream: a veterinary clinic in Marneuli.

Death is already close – sitting right beside her. Nana can be saved. More importantly, it is the responsibility of the state to help her – because after losing her three-year-old child in a tragic accident, this remarkable woman devoted her entire life to caring for the elderly, children, and even animals abandoned by cruel people.

This is not a metaphor. It is a schedule. A diagnosis. A cold truth Nana wakes up to every morning.

Stage III ovarian cancer does not scream or warn.

It simply arrives – and begins to take everything away: strength, breath, the future. Every morning feels like a step into emptiness

Her body no longer obeys. Pain spreads from within. Her blood pressure drops, her temperature stays low, and the tumor presses as if life itself were being crushed in a fist. Breathing is hard. Moving is unbearable. Time is slipping away. Nana knows this could be the end. But what frightens her most is not death. She is terrified of leaving behind those who will not survive without her.

Her life had already been split into “before” and “after.” Her three-year-old son, Nuran, died…

And then Nana made a vow: If she could not save her own child – she would save others. All who are defenseless. All who have no one to protect them.

A beautiful soul. Her personal tragedy transformed her into Georgian “Mother Teresa.”

She opened her home to children. She taught them to sew, sing, dance, paint. She gave them the warmth she herself had once lost. She created a small island of life where there had once been only grief.

There are dozens of stray dogs around her. She rescued them, fed them, treated them, spoke to them as if they were children.

They sleep beside her, press close, sense her weakness — and don’t understand why she can no longer get up the way she used to. They do not know that soon they may be left alone.

But she knows. And that knowledge makes the pain unbearable.

Today, her last dream is a veterinary clinic in Marneuli –

a place where animals die simply because there is no one nearby to help. That dream is what keeps her alive. But cancer does not wait. Her strength is fading.

And she looks at her dogs with a silent question: Who will take care of them when I am gone?

The answer is terrifying: no one.

But it does not have to be that way.

We can carry on her work.
We can keep her mission alive. We can save those she is still breathing for.

Every minute now has a price.
Every breath is worth its weight in gold.
While Nana is still alive, there is still time.
