A cruel illness has severely deformed the legs of three-year-old Lazare. And whether this child of God will one day walk and enjoy life, remembering the kindness of those who saved him – or remain disabled and suffer for the rest of his life – God has entrusted that decision to us.
REPOST RIGHT AWAY, MY GOOD MAN! HELP YOUR FRIENDS TO GET CLOSER TO GOD!
Hold on just a little longer through this terrible pain, our poor boy.
This sunny child is three-year-old Lazare. He was born prematurely with serious health problems. Specifically, compression of a nerve in the parietal region affected his brain development and speech. Sadly, this sweet boy’s suffering did not end there.
Both of his feet are so severely deformed that he cannot walk. But who would complain about not walking when the child is in excruciating pain – pain so severe that even an adult would struggle to endure it?
This is what Lazare’s legs looked like when he was born.
At just two months old, tiny Lazare – fragile as a little chick – underwent his first surgery. Unfortunately, it brought no results. Then a true nightmare began.
The child could not spend even a single hour without a cast – a cast that weighed three times more than the boy himself.
Just imagine this horrifying situation: a child completely encased in plaster, unable even to move.
This is Nino, Lazare’s mother. She is 21 years old. But being Lazare’s mother is not her only role. Her true role is that of a heroic mother. Nino was only 18 years old when she earned that title. Imagine this: an 18-year-old girl spent nine long months eagerly waiting to hold her firstborn child in her arms…but when Lazare was born prematurely, doctors immediately rushed him to intensive care, and the poor mother managed to see him only for a brief moment.
Nino, 21, Lazare’s mother: “Sometimes I ask God what I did in life to deserve watching my child suffer. I look at him… and I can’t help him in any way. This feeling of helplessness destroys me emotionally. When he was a year and a half old, he underwent another surgery. Now he moves with the help of orthoses. Over the past year, thanks to the casts and orthoses, his condition has improved – but he still cannot walk on his own.”
When I, a journalist for the Chernovetskyi Foundation, spoke with Lazare’s mother, the moment she mentioned orthoses, the poor young woman burst into tears and could not continue the conversation. The reason is simple: Lazare has outgrown his orthoses, and 21-year-old Nino was too embarrassed to say so.
Nino, 21, Lazare’s mother: “Without orthoses, all these improvements and years of effort will be wasted. His feet have grown, and the orthoses are now too small. But I don’t have the means to buy new ones, so I have to put the old ones on him with great difficulty.
My boy cries because the tight orthoses hurt his legs, and I have to take them off again.”
Her words made my blood run cold. What is this young woman really asking for? She is asking for orthoses that cost no more than a single dinner at a restaurant.
How unfair life is… Some parents spend money on expensive toys,
while other mothers need that very same amount to save their child’s life.
Nino, 21, Lazare’s mother: “When my family and I had the means, we always helped people in need without expecting anything in return. And now I’m ashamed that I have to ask for help myself.”
Please listen to the plea of this mother asking for help. There is no bond in this world stronger than that between a mother and her child.
As if her suffering were not enough, another terrible diagnosis followed. Recent CT scans revealed that Lazare has a developmental skull abnormality known as craniosynostosis –
a severe condition in which the sutures between the bones of a child’s skull close prematurely. As a result, the brain cannot grow properly, and the shape of the head becomes deformed.
But the deformity is the smallest problem. With this condition, normal brain development is impossible.
Unfortunately, this disease cannot be treated with medication. Without timely surgery, you can already imagine the devastating consequences awaiting poor Lazare.
“How old are you, Lazare?” I asked. He could not answer with words because of brain damage, but this smart little boy didn’t give up. With his tiny fingers, he showed me – a stranger – his age. May this sunny boy live so long that even ten people wouldn’t have enough fingers to show his years.
This is how Lazare smiles when he is free from pain. Look at this radiant child. Stars of kindness shine in his eyes. But sadly, moments without pain are very rare. Without your help, kind-hearted people, the “wings” of this little angel will never grow.
Lazare urgently needs a full neurological examination and new orthoses. This is not simply a necessity. This is his path to survival.
Exhausted by pain, Lazare cannot endure even a minute without his beloved mother nearby. And when the child finally falls asleep, do you think his exhausted 21-year-old mother rests? She can no longer remember the last time she slept peacefully or watched her favorite movie.
Sometimes Nino’s thoughts drift back to the carefree life she had before turning 18 – and then she returns to the bitter reality. A harsh reality she can face only because you exist, people of faith and compassion.

Today, there is a pause in the Mebonia family’s hardship…
Even their dog – once the most cheerful member of the family before Lazare was born – now lies quietly.
As I, a journalist for the fund, was leaving the Mebonia family’s home and had already stepped past the gate, I suddenly felt a persistent gaze from behind, sending shivers down my spine. I turned around – and saw the scene unfolding behind me.
The dog, whom the world had relegated to the “status of an animal,” had stepped out of the gate with me, its eyes silently pleading to save its little friend Lazare.
And now, in this very moment, I, a journalist for the Fund, trying to write the next lines of this article, feel that after witnessing this scene, every word, every emotion will fall flat. So I will stop writing here. But it is precisely this “ending” that marks the beginning of what matters most – the fight to save three-year-old Lazare, a fight that begins right from this moment.
