Grandmother Anolita is 79 years old. She is completely blind and is afraid she may not live to see the morning under a roof that is cracking above her head. She has no food and no medicine. The heart of this poor elderly woman still hopes for a miracle – that she will not be left to die alone.

Anolita, 79-year-old: “When I was a student, I dyed my hair. One drop of hydrogen peroxide – and one eye stopped seeing forever…”

In her student years, Anolita was young and beautiful, with dreams and a future ahead of her. Nothing about that day seemed unusual – until one mistake changed her life forever.
What had seemed like a routine procedure ended in a tragic mistake that changed everything. Her eyesight began to fade slowly but relentlessly.Then fate struck again – her husband died.

Anolita was left alone with her seven-month-old son, without support, without protection, and with her vision almost gone.

She survived.She raised her son.She lived to old age. Today Anolita is 79. She sees nothing. At all.Because of constant stress and pain, she developed diabetes. Six months ago, she underwent heart surgery – bypass surgery. Now she doesn’t even have money for medicine.

Anolita, 79-year-old: “I wouldn’t wish blindness on my worst enemy. We don’t value our sight until we lose it.
 And once we lose it – we cry.”

Anolita lives with her son. He is also blind. He is deeply embarrassed of his situation and almost never leaves the house. Their entire life depends on social allowance and disability pensions. They get bread from a social canteen, just so there is something to eat at home.

This poor blind woman sleeps on a hard wooden bed – her bones ache, her body is in constant pain. An orthopedic bed is an impossible dream for her.

And now – the worst part. Their home has been declared unsafe. Huge cracks have appeared in the walls.
They have already received two official letters from the authorities demanding that they vacate the apartment. The administration offered to pay rent – but they urgently need a place to rent, and landlords refuse to rent to blind people.

Anolita, 79-year-old: “I’m afraid… that the roof will collapse on us. I’m afraid of an earthquake – I won’t be able to run outside. I’m blind…”

Please, do not pass by. Grandmother Anolita and her blind son desperately need help: food, medicine, warm clothing, any furniture, a gas stove. But most importantly – help these kind, good people move into temporary rented housing while their home is demolished, and a new one is built.
