This little angel began fighting for his life from the very moment he was born. The child was born with an open defect in his spine – a condition called spina bifida.
This is a rare disease that forms in children while they are still in their mother’s womb and often condemns a person to death. The cruelty of this illness is that it condemns a person to a slow and painful decline.
Gabriel was only three days old when he underwent surgery. The baby was incredibly tiny, and just imagine how small and fragile his heart was. And yet that tiny heart – as small as a dot – endured anesthesia and an extremely complex surgery.
But as the saying goes, a person born under an unlucky star cannot escape misfortune. After the operation, Gabriel’s parents began to hope their child would recover and that the worst was behind them. But doctors soon discovered that fluid had started to accumulate in the baby’s head during the surgery.
Hydrocephalus – you have probably all heard of this terrible disease.
Just imagine: the boy was not even a month old when he was diagnosed with two of the most terrible conditions. One affects the brain, and the other causes dysfunction of the spine, effectively paralyzing the limbs.
He has already undergone brain shunt surgery 10 times, and he is only 8 years old. Yes… in eight years of the boy’s life there have hardly been even eight minutes when a joyful smile shone on his face. Gabriel suffers from unimaginable pain.
Without this cursed wheelchair, the child cannot take a single step on his own. The boy cannot even talk; he can only produce separate sounds. But his eyes speak, and they say far more than words ever could.
The child’s eyes show that even more than physical pain, he suffers from deep emotional pain.
Look – in this single moment you can see the entire eight-year history of suffering and loneliness of the child. His peer rides a scooter, while Gabriel rides in a wheelchair.
His peer runs like the wind, while Gabriel cannot take a single step on the ground.
Gabriel’s peers gather and go to play on the playground, while Gabriel can only watch them from afar.
Gabriel dreams that when he grows up, he will have a real motorcycle and a real car, just like the “grown-up guys”.
The poor child watches the noisy street from his wheelchair. That same street where others laugh, run, play, go to school, return home, and simply enjoy childhood. Spring has come to this street again this year for all the children – except for one boy who has been waiting for eight years for the day when spring will come for him too.
Gabriel urgently needs surgery abroad, and this involves quite large expenses. What can his poor mother do?
The social assistance of 400 lari and Gabriel’s disability pension of 475 lari barely cover food, medicines, and diapers for the child.
And because of the stress and worry for Gabriel, the mother herself has developed diabetes and is now insulin dependent. Her only sweetness in life is to kiss her gentle son.
Turkish doctors are already waiting for our bright-eyed boy. The main news is that after studying the child’s condition, the doctors say there is a real chance for Gabriel’s recovery. If we help, our colleagues from Turkey promise that very soon after the surgery the child will be able to walk and be freed from his hellish pain. In fact, this sunny boy will be born again. Without help he will not survive – which is why we must all help care for this child.

Eight years of unbearable suffering have come to an end. Our little Georgian boy has undergone a complex surgery on his hip joints and feet abroad. As a reminder, both of Gabriel’s hip joints were dislocated, and his feet were so severely deformed that he could not walk – he could not even stand on his feet for a single moment.
The surgery was even more successful than doctors had hoped. The doctors’ “verdict” is incredible: Gabriel will not only be able to walk – but he may also even be able to run!
Our boy amazed the foreign doctors with his big, shining eyes.
The wheelchair will soon become a thing of the past in this child’s life.
