It happened 30 years ago. A young mother, full of life, was enjoying the scent of freshly blossomed buds in the yard of her home. Before little Rati returned from school, she decided to water the seedlings. And then that cursed moment came…a moment of death…

The poor woman slipped, fell into the well… and death claimed its victory.

Rati came home from school. He had picked wildflowers for his mother on his way.

Oh… how could the poor boy have known that instead of a vase, those flowers would be laid upon his mother’s lifeless body

From that day on, little Rati became an orphan. What a terrible word that is. God, when You created humanity, why did You create the word “orphan”? How unjust it is when children place beautiful flowers on their mother’s cold body…

Weeks have passed. Months. Years…

Spring returned again and again to the Chanturidze home, but the seedlings never bloomed again…

Who knows – perhaps they, too, were hurt by this world.

The sun’s rays warmed the orphaned boy’s body, but his heart remained cold… For a child, a mother’s warmth is the only warmth in the world that can never be replaced.

The orphaned boy grew up. His father, a true hero, devoted his entire life to Rati.

And when Rati reached the very age at which his mother had died, another tragedy struck the Chanturidze family.

Again – water. Again – that cursed moment. It felt as if someone had placed a curse on this kind and faithful family…

Rati miraculously survived – he did not drown. But what kind of life is this…

His spinal cord was damaged. He is paralyzed. He has no sensation.

A young man, confined to a hospital bed, suffers terribly. His only comfort is that his mind remains the same as it was on that cursed day. But who knows – perhaps that awareness is his greatest trial… The farthest distance he can travel in a wheelchair is the balcony of his home.

From there, he quietly watches the village road. His eyes seem to be waiting for someone to appear…

Who knows – perhaps he still longs to see his mother’s face, just as he did in childhood…

Orphanhood knows no age. The pain of losing a mother never fades from the eyes of an orphan, no matter how many years pass.

To this day, Rati has not started a family. He has no children. And now, paralyzed, he may be forever deprived of the chance to become a father. We must not let this happen. The life of a boy who grew up an orphan must not fade away without leaving a trace in this world.

For Rati to stand on his feet again, he needs proper rehabilitation. But what can his 81-year-old father do? How can he pay for his son’s recovery on a pension?
