Medea survived this winter only because the cats were breathing beside her.

It is not a metaphor.When the cold becomes so intense that it starts to hurt from within, they come on their own.
Quietly jump onto the bed. One curls up by her feet, another presses against her chest. A third stays close to her face, breathing warmth into her.

I told Medea how a small dog named “Moysha,” belonging to our investor, starts jumping on him with all four paws at night whenever it hears a rocket flying – and once even saved his life: it dragged him by his trousers into a safe room just moments before a massive 300–500 kg structure flew off a balcony and crashed exactly where he had been lying and watching TV.

Death was that close.

This is how the nights pass… And day after day, life goes on in terrible physical and emotional suffering for this nearly blind, deeply kind and dignified Georgian woman – Medea.

If Medea falls ill and can’t get up, she could lose her life within days. No one would come. No one would bring her water or call an ambulance. No one has ever asked how she feels, whether she’s hungry, or how they could help.

Georgia, Georgia… Has it really come to this in such a warm and beautiful country? Have people’s hearts turned to ice? Are those in need abandoned like unwanted pets? Has the pain of another human being truly stopped mattering here?
It was never like this before. “I’m ready to testify even in the European Court,” says our now elderly sponsor, almost in tears!  

Once, Medea had a spacious home. And a love so great that even I cannot describe it.

She trusted a man with all her heart – a man who convinced her to sell everything, promising to build a successful business and make her happy. He painted beautiful visions for her: a palace-like home, many happy children, and above all – his sincere love.

Oh, these Georgian women… Especially those who live in the clouds of love that blind them to deceitful men. Can she really be blamed for her naivety? True love is always ready to give up not only possessions – but even life itself.

The stress broke her. Now she is seriously ill and almost blind. And most of all – she is completely alone. Because those who deceive and exploit never return to their victims. Now it is our responsibility to heal her, to give her a new chance at life. This is our responsibility before God.

One mistake – trusting the wrong person – cost her everything.

He looked into her eyes and said:
“Trust me. This is for us. We’ll start a new life.”

She didn’t doubt him. She signed everything. She gave him her home. It wasn’t just deception.
It was a slow, deliberate destruction. He disappeared.
With the money.
With her home.
With her future.

The house was gone. The money vanished. The man she trusted simply dissolved into nothing, leaving behind emptiness.

Then her father passed away.
And with him, she lost her last support. Since then she has just one room. And a suffocating silence. At the Fund, all we can do is feel compassion – and of course, we will do everything possible to find the criminal and make him pay with his freedom.

30 lari a month.Not even enough to survive. Every day – the same walk for food. One meal a day, which Georgian media recently called “slop,” and an investigation has even been launched.

Medea used to work. She cleaned floors at a school. She stood on her feet for hours. Lived as best as she could.
Now her legs are in constant pain. Dull, relentless, unforgiving. Doctors say she needs surgery. But she’s afraid.

Her vision is fading. After a fall this winter, she lost sight in her left eye. The animals she keeps are the only thing that warms her heart.
At night, they press their bodies against her to keep her from freezing!

Medea has kept her dignity. Her requests are barely above a whisper: Not luxury, not miracles – just a refrigerator, just something to heat the room,
just a cabinet so her belongings aren’t on the floor.

Just – to live, not merely survive.

But even these simple things are out of reach for her.

Sometimes all a person has left is warmth that cannot be bought.
But maybe today we can give her something that restores faith –
human warmth.
