Little Mariam, a beautiful Georgian girl, has already been left without a father once – he disappeared from her life long ago and has forgotten that this little angel even exists.

All she has, this child, is a big-eyed broken toy… and her great-grandmother, who is dying of cancer – without whose love and care Mariam would not have survived.

72-year-old Tamara, whom cancer is slowly consuming. Day and night, she warms this Georgian angel with her body and washes her with tears.

Who knows – perhaps this is their last embrace…

For the disease that is destroying this devoted old woman – one we would call a Hero of Georgia – has already spread its dark roots into her exhausted mind.

The child’s 21-year-old mother works around the clock just to somehow provide for both the little one and the elderly woman – to buy medicine, at least some food.

AND NOW, PLEASE READ HOW CRUEL FATE HAS BEEN TO HER! TODAY, MARIAM IS A HUNGRY, FREEZING CHILD WITH NO HOME – DRESSED IN WORN CLOTHES AND LOOKING INTO THE HANDS OF PEOPLE CARRYING FOOD…

IF WE DO NOT HELP HER SURVIVE, THE FEELING OF REGRET WILL NEVER LEAVE US.

Her father left when she was still very little and helpless.

Sadly, there are men in this world who bravely raise a toast “to all children” at the table – but quietly abandon their own child… a child who cannot even walk yet, who hasn’t even had the chance to say the word “dad.”

LET NO ONE THINK THAT SHE IS “SOMEONE ELSE’S CHILD.” MARIAM IS OURS!!! SHE IS A GEORGIAN CHILD.

And we cannot call ourselves human if we allow Mariam’s great-grandmother to die. Today she is alone with the child in a cold apartment that does not even belong to them.

Day and night, Mariam is cared for by her great-grandmother, 72-year-old Tamara, who is being consumed by cancer. She is raising Mariam with such devotion that this elderly woman deserves a monument as a hero.

Tamara underwent breast removal surgery ten years ago. It seemed she had won. But the illness returned.

Now the malignant tumor has spread to her head.

Chemotherapy is holding back metastases in her lungs. Every day is a fight for her life.

The poor woman suffers unbearably…

And yet – every morning she gets up. She cooks for Mariam, bathes her, changes her diapers, takes her outside for walks. Sings lullabies. Rocks her to sleep. With her last strength – but she does it.

When Tamara was first diagnosed, there was no state program to fund cancer treatment. The family sold the land where their demolished house once stood to pay for surgery. Since then, they have been registered as homeless.

Local authorities placed them in this building. In two small rooms live the grandmother, Mariam, and other family members.

“It is not safe here for a child’s health or life. In spring and throughout summer, I cannot even open the window – instead of fresh air, ‘living creatures’ come inside.” – Tamara, 72
