She is 84 years old.
Her name is Guliko.

She survived war.
She survived hunger.
She survived being orphaned.

But she could not survive… loneliness.

Grandmother Guliko, 84: “I lie here, paralyzed…

I cannot get up… I wait for death every day… but it doesn’t come…” 

She cries out in pain.
She weeps day and night.
She begs… for someone… anyone… to stay by her side.

But there is no one.

There isn’t even hot water in her home.

The toilet is in terrible condition.

The refrigerator doesn’t work.

The television is silent. 

She lies on an old, sagging bed.

Once, she fell along with it…

And simply lay on the floor, unable to get up. 

Grandmother Guliko, 84: “Sometimes a whole day passes… and I remain hungry… I’m afraid I won’t even be able to afford painkillers…” 

She was born in 1942. On the day she was born, news arrived that her father had been killed. Then her mother died.

She grew up an orphan. She had one set of clothes.
They would wash them – and she would wait for them to dry.

Forty-eight years of hard labor.Factory work. The port.

She cared for her husband when he was bedridden…
And now she lies alone herself.

She has an adopted daughter.
She raised her with love.

But her daughter is far away.
She has four children of her own.
She cannot help.

First, a broken arm.
Then – terrible pain from trigeminal neuralgia.
Then a fall… and a fractured hip.

And life came to a halt.

Grandmother Guliko, 84: “I don’t want to die…

I want to live…

But there is no one to take care of me…” 

When the journalist was leaving… Guliko held her hand tightly:

“Sit with me, my dear… stay a little longer…
When will you come again?”

Now, the answer to that question is up to us.

Guliko urgently needs:
medication, food, diapers, hygiene supplies,
a proper bed, and an anti-bedsore mattress.

But most of all – she needs someone by her side.

Do not let her die alone.

Because a person who has endured so much… should not leave this world like this.
