“Dad, please rise from the grave… we’re begging you…Look, we brought you Easter cake and painted eggs. Reziko will die without you…Come back to life, Daddy!” – 11-year-old Lizi and 9-year-old Gigi

There are stories that touch the soul…and there are those that you will never forget for the rest of your life. Today, the Chernovetskyi Fund is telling one of those stories.

When I, a journalist from the Fund, came to the Mikadze family, 11-year-old Lizi and 9-year-old Gigi were not at home. So I followed the road that was supposed to lead me to them. And… it was a road that led me to a cemetery…

From a distance, I saw two little angels bent over their father’s grave. The silence of the vast cemetery was broken by only one thing – the children’s plea: “Lord, bring our daddy back to life. And bring other children’s moms and dads back too. We read in the Bible that You can do it.”

From the Fund’s journalist: hearing these words, I felt my blood run cold. A sense of helplessness filled me with anger at myself – because I could not find any words to comfort them.

Look at this photo. This is something deeper than pain. It is something else.

Endlessly deep… immeasurable…

This is the kind of pain that has no horizon.

A true man and patriot, Amiran Mikadze, died at the age of 33. He had been completely healthy. But the anguish over his sick child destroyed him.

This is Reziko – the brother of Lizi and Gigi. Because of medical negligence, he was given the wrong treatment when he was just a few months old.

As a result, his brain was damaged, and his limbs are completely paralyzed.

Reziko is now 14, and in all these years there has not been a single day without pain. He does not know what joy is. He does not know what it is like to play with other children. He does not know the world.

He does not live… he exists. And the tragedy is even greater – he has to fight just to go on existing.

Amiran was only 19 when he became a father. Reziko was the child who first gave him the joy of fatherhood. But the father left this world without fulfilling his greatest dream.

“Reziko, my son, just once – call me ‘Dad.’ Let’s try… let’s practice. Da…d… Come on, say it.”

The poor child could not say it out loud, but his eyes spoke those words every day. Until Amiran came home, Reziko could not fall asleep. This was not just a father’s love for his son. It was something deeper… something beyond words.

The family, living in hardship and without a home of their own, could not take the child abroad for treatment in time. From the constant stress over his son, Amiran suffered two heart attacks — but survived. But his heart could not endure the third one.

The 33-year-old man was recently laid to rest. He took his pain for his son with him to the grave.

Gigi, 7-year-old: “The day before he died, Dad turned on music at home, and we – me, Lizi, and Reziko – were dancing. He picked Reziko up from his wheelchair and danced with him like that. Reziko was so happy then. And Dad said: ‘I feel in my heart that this is my last dance with you.’

I heard those words by accident, and I didn’t understand what he meant by ‘last dance.’ Now I do, auntie…”

This wheelchair was brought for Reziko many years ago by a government agency, but unfortunately it is not adapted to his needs.

Mzevinar, 54 (Amiran’s mother, Reziko’s grandmother): “During the funeral, as I was covering my son with earth with my own hands, I asked the Lord: ‘Why did You leave me alive? Why didn’t You take me first, so I wouldn’t have to see my own son’s funeral with my own eyes?’

And now I ask the Lord’s forgiveness for those words. Now I know – I am needed in this world for Reziko.  But how can I bear all of this at once?

This house is not ours. Soon we will have to leave it. Where can I take 7-year-old Gigi, 11-year-old Lizi, and 14-year-old Reziko, who is bedridden?”

From the Fund’s journalist: Friends, right now the most urgent need is medication necessary for the child’s survival. He needs food, diapers, a proper bed, and a wheelchair adapted to his condition.

And please, do not forget little Lizi and Gigi.

The Mikadze family was already living in extreme poverty. Now, after their father’s death, the childhood of these little angels has come to an end. And this is not an exaggeration. You can see it in their eyes. We must not allow this to continue – otherwise, our conscience will never give us peace.

None of us knows what tomorrow, the day after, or a year from now will bring.

But one thing we know for certain, as the Lord teaches us:

If you reach out your hand to help children in need – even if they are not your own – the Lord will guide your children along paths where evil cannot reach them, and where only the songs of angels are heard.
