These children’s hearts are not filled with stories of fairy-tale heroes. They are filled only with worry – whether there will be bread tomorrow, or whether another hungry day awaits them. When I asked about a refrigerator, five-year-old Yasmin told me she didn’t even know what that “thing” was.

Five-year-old Yasmin has learned not to say a word when she is hungry, and one-year-old Maya has learned to fall asleep hungry to the sound of her grandmother’s loud, painful coughing.

Their fragile little world rests on one exhausted woman – heroic 53-year-old Maya Kanashvili. (From all the staff of the Fund: bravo, Maya! You will forever remain in our Hall of Honor.) A true martyr, she endures non-insulin-dependent diabetes, chronic asthma, and severe heart disease all at once.

And yet, despite everything, Maya still rises every morning. Limping, trembling, and twisting in terrible pain, she forces herself to keep going. Because if she surrenders to her illnesses, these little girls’ childhood will collapse with her.

This is a house of suffering. Here, they do not count days – they count pieces of bread. There is no carefree childhood laughter here. Medicine has become an unreachable luxury, and even a child’s crib remains an impossible dream. Their grandmother tries to warm her granddaughters with love when she herself has almost no strength left.

These children should not have to grow up surrounded by poverty, pain, and hopelessness.

But today, this family has only their gravely ill grandmother and the Lord, who miraculously keeps her standing

DO NOT REMAIN SILENT, FRIENDS! THIS IS EXACTLY THE MOMENT WHEN THE LORD LOOKS DEEPLY INTO EACH ONE OF OUR SOULS. FOR GOD IS LOVE – AND LOVE BELONGS TO ALL WHO BELIEVE IN HIM!

To our Lord, there is no such thing as “small” help, just as there is no such thing as “small” compassion or a “small” prayer. To Him, who loves you personally, nothing is ever “too small” if you offer your whole heart in sympathy to the suffering – both in the moment of helping and ever after.

Remember, God cares for your soul above all; He looks for the aid that comes from the very depths of your heart. Give whatever you can, so that you may never look back and regret a heart left cold.
