Friends, the Lord gave us souls so we could feel compassion for those who are truly in need. Today, we share a deeply moving story – the story of a young and loving mother, 21-year-old Maria. She is suffering terribly. But this is one of those cases where God has given us the strength and resources to save her from agonizing, life-threatening pain.  Maria must not die. Because a charming 3-month-old Georgian baby boy is waiting for her. Without his mother, he will not survive. And we will never forgive ourselves for such a loss.

“Lord, when will this suffering end… Please don’t abandon me in my time of need.”

Friends, this is 21-year-old Mariam, mother of three-month-old Gabriel. The young woman is tormented by unbearable pain – sudden, intense attacks. Many of you know exactly what we’re talking about…

Poor thing… She often loses consciousness from the pain. And if she happens to be holding her baby when that happens, and hits something sharp – there could be two lives lost in an instant!

Right after giving birth, doctors discovered a large stone in her gallbladder. And it keeps growing… shortening this young mother’s life with each passing day. Anyone who has ever had even small gallstones, friends, knows just how excruciating that pain can be!

Every morning, Mariam begins her day with tearful prayers. This mother, using her last bit of strength, begs God to save her life – so her son won’t grow up an orphan.

Doctors say she needs urgent surgery.
But first, she must undergo a full examination. And yet… oh, what “kind” people they are! They knew perfectly well that Mariam couldn’t even afford basic tests, let alone surgery!!!

Cursed poverty humiliates people. May it be damned! But we – and the thousands of friends of our Fund – will never understand: how can someone see a dying woman and not reach out to help? Every medical student takes the Hippocratic Oath before earning the right to practice medicine! Or… is that not the case in Georgia? We honestly don’t know anymore…

And on top of her illness, the family lives in extreme poverty. Their home is falling apart – a death trap for a young Georgian family.

Cracked walls, no proper floor – indescribable poverty that only deepens the suffering of this mother and her child. Oh, Georgia, where are your sons who should care for the people? We must do at least the most basic repairs. Otherwise, one day we’ll read the news of yet another death beneath the rubble.

Mariam dreams of surgery. She dreams of laughing and enjoying life with her baby Gabriel. Is it really possible… that even her little boy doesn’t matter to Georgia?

Mariam (21-year-old): “I have a good husband. He loves me and our son. He tries so hard to take care of us. But there’s so much we need…”

Mariam shared in strict confidence, making sure her husband and child didn’t hear, that she often cries in secret. There’s always somewhere to hide in the ruins of the house.  “It’s a miracle,” the young mother said, “but my baby feels my sadness – he starts crying too…” There seems to be no end to this family’s suffering!

Dato (23 years old): “When my wife is in pain, our baby cries too… All I want is for Gabriel to have a healthy mom and a carefree future. Only then will I have peace. I go days without even 2 or 3 hours of sleep – just so my wife and child feel okay. I don’t think about myself at all.”

Dato – is the only breadwinner. But his janitor’s salary is barely enough for food – let alone medicine or baby supplies.  For his family, Dato spends freezing nights sweeping the streets, just to bring food to his child and medicine for his sick wife – medicine that eases her pain for only a few minutes…

Dear kind-hearted people, you can see for yourselves what condition this beautiful Georgian family is in! The baby barely has three toys to play with!

Rainwater leaks through their broken ceiling all the time!!

As if poverty wasn’t enough, now illness has joined their suffering… The family lives in fear – terrified that their little one might lose his mother.

Save Mariam’s life, friends! Don’t leave this family alone in their struggle to survive.  Help little Gabriel’s mother – and you’ll bring joy to his little heart and protect him from tragedy.
